Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

stock a 14 gallon tank?

I'm setting up my first tank and I'm thinking out how to stock it while the plants grow and nitrogen cycle begins. I was thinking of a school of corydoras and maybe a beta fish or guppy. How many corys could I keep with room for a few more fish-I want to avoid overstocking.

Welcome to fishlore!
I think that 3-4 corys & a betta would be a nice tank.

That's good to hear. One more thing; at the moment I have a small piece of driftwood and small bonsai tree pot (I'd say about 6 inches at it's widest and 4 inches deep) in the tank, will this be enough for the corys to be comfortable with or should I get more hiding places?

Some live or plastic plants would probably be good. And at least one tall one so that the betta can rest near the top of the water.

I have a few bulbs in there that should grow well. If they don't or if none get very tall I'll get some fake ones.
