Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

over stocking?

i have finished cycling my 20gal fresh water tank. i've started to add some fish. i already have 5 neon tetras and 2 glolight tetras ( they school together). i am going to add a school of 3 cory cats (or some other small schooling catfish0 and a school of 5 zebra danios ( 3 of them are gentically modified so there glofish).i believe i have not overstuffed but it is tempting for me to do it. could i get more fish if i made my cory cat school larger? if so how many more cory cats should i get ( i already have 3) and what other fish could i get?what would be the disadvanteges of this.

thanks 4 your help

Welcome to Fishlore.
7 tetras =10.5 inches
3 corys=7.5 inches
5 debra danios=10 inches

That is 28 inches..in a 20 gallon tank I would say your overstocked. SInce you already have the tetras I would skip the zebra danios and get the cory's they are so cute and fun to watch.

I personally do not agree with inches as the needs of the fish is more important not size. I beleive tat you should mainly look at biload and needs. The tetras are fuine (Im surprised that they are schooling. Cool

With the cories. They like larger schools so i would put about 2 more to make 5.

As for the zebra danios. Im not too sure. If you have good filtration, and do weekly water changes I think you will be ok.

i agree with choffman and would say youve overstalked...and think that one of the big gurrus here will agree with that though david might be right if you keep the bioload in check. you ever think about just getting a massive tank if you like stalking it so much? it might save you a bit of hastle just having to pick the few ones you want, though i know its not always in the budget since im in the same position

Personally, if you want bio-diversity, I would stick with your 7 tetras, get 6 zebra danios, and get 6 panda or pygmy cories (they both stay small).
