can i trust my danios in a community tank

I have four surviving zebras from my 10 gallon tank which are very happy darting about in my new 40 gallon tank. Problem is I am worried about what will happen when I introduce new fish into the tank. I understand they can be quite aggressive and nippy towards other fish (including their own kind), even with a school of six+. Has anybody here had any experience with danios in a community tank ?Can they be trusted to behave with tank mates? At the moment I am thinking that maybe I should send them back to their original tank rather than risk them injuring my new fish. i was planning to have guppies , tetras and and one angel fish, plus maybe one cory. Any comments/suggestions will be much appreciated.

yes, they can definitely be trusted, I mean if you freak at every little chase when they chase each other then they aren't the fish for you, it also just depends on the fish's personal disposition.

I am a big fan of Zebra Danio's and have never had any problems with them in a community set up. They are rather boisterous but I've never seen them bullying other fish. And I've kept them with all of the fish you named. Just make sure the Tetras have a shoal of their own(at least 6)

Danios are common in community tanks. They are very active & will chase eachother, but they shouldn't cause any damage.

As long as you have a full school (six or more) you will be fine. The aggression works itself out in the school.

Phew! I am reassured. I didn't want to kick'em out of the new tank-they seem to really love the extra space and tear around in and out of the plants and driftwood all day. So if they will behave with their new tank mates that is great. I will get another two danios to make it six and start introducing the new fishies in a few weeks when the tank is fully cycled.( Don't worry. I moved them over with some of the water from the other tank and some of the gravel and plants and am doing daily water changes. Things seem fine)

I inherited one danio with my 29 gallon, and I saw a lot of nipping, but once I did my research that's rather common. I didn't want to buy more to make a school, as they're not a personal favorite of mine, so I ended up taking him to my LFS and trading him for a tetra that I wanted.

Another note...you mentioned in your first post about getting one cory. Cory cats are schooling fish as well, so you may want to consider getting 3 or more to reduce stress on them and make them more comfortable.

ok i will re do my numbers and see if i have room 3-4 corys, otherwise I might have to leave them out. It would be a shame to send the danios back to the small tank because they really seem to leave the extra space in the big tank. ( thinking of getting a betta for the small tank)
