Am I Overstocked???

3 cardinal tetras
3 neon tetras
3 guppy's
3 zerba danios
6 corys
1 mystery snail

I have a 20 gallon long tank 30x12x12, good filtration, 9 live plants all in good condition, readings 0.0 ammonia 0.0 nitrite, nitrate is always between 10 & 20 PPM,weekly water changes.I'm thinking all fish have small bioload.am i really badly overstocked or am fine or overstocked where I'll be ok

I would say you are overstocked.

If I were you I would get rid of ether the guppies and danios or get rid of the tetras and by 3 more zebra danios so you have a school.

I, on the other hand, think that your stock is fine. As long as you stay digilent with your water changes, I think everything should be fine.

I'm hoping you have all male or all female guppies, otherwise you might become extremely overstocked (guppies breed like rabbits)....

As long as you think that you can keep up with water changes and really stay on top of your levels, you should be okay. Personally though, I agree with angelfish220

Hi, I'm hardly an expert so I would never say yay or nay, but I also have a 20 gallon rectangular and was also wondering recently whether or not I was overstocked (reason I clicked your thread). I found out I WAS overstocked the hard way - I lost all my fish, due to not QT-ing new fish but also stress from overcrowding. One person's experience doesn't mean everyone else will have the same of course, your circumstances are likely different, but I myself will definitely be cautious - and therefore always understock my tank - from now on. Just a friendly word.

I posted here recently in the 'freshwater fish Disease' section titled "Major tank disaster - advice please??" if you'd like to reference my mistakes. I'm starting over with lots of help from these fine people and hoping for the best!

my cardinal & neon tetras school together all the time, my zebra danio play tag with each other all over the tank all day, the guppys hang out most of the time if not they wonder off on there own trip, my cory well you all know what they do.

I think you might want to trade in your danios, just to even out your bioload, and also because they might be a bit nippy since they don't have a full school..
Right now, without calculating the inches of your fish, you have 19 fish in a 20g tank.. If each fish was 2 inches, that would be almost 2 ipg (inch per gallons)!

But if you decide to keep the fish, you better definitely keep up on your wc's...

I'd say your stocking levels are fine. They're all small fish with small bio-loads. Just do regular water changes and you should be fine. I wouldn't add anymore fish though!
