Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Can I fit?..just one more

I was in my LFS and my fish guy had some BEAUTIFUL pearl gouramis and I would love to get one for my son's 20 gal tank which currently houses 5 corys (4 pandas and 1 Pepper) and 4 tetras (1 black neon, 1 gold pristella & 2 pistellas). The current residents are all bottom swimmers - even the tetras stay close to the bottom so it would be nice to have someone swimming middle to top (it's a standard 20 gal tall). I have been toying with the idea of a small gourami but would I be overstocking?! Any opinions?!

Personally, I think you'd be fine. Especially as they'll be in different levels of the tank

It would just be minor overstocking, so it shouldn't be an issue. They're great fish...I got a male a couple of weeks ago and he is by far the most docile gourami I've owned.

I would agree. As long as you're willing to stay on top of the tank and make sure that you keep the water at safe levels, you should be fine! Generally the reason that overstocking is bad (unless severely overstocked which leads to horrible water conditions and cramped fish) is because of aggression, but I think you would be fine.
