Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

How Many Bottom Feeders Is Too Much

I am wonderig if there is a limit to how many bottom feeders I should keep in a 35 gallon tank? Currently there is a 3" rts & 2" clown pleco in the tank. I am interested in cory catfish. I have read that they thrive better in groups of 3 or more.

as long as you have the space and enuff alge/food on the bottem or what ever it is they eat they should be fine as far as I know.

Sorry about the spelling

well, with any type of pleco you only need one (commons need 55 gallons minimum) because they are huge waste producers, hence they carry a large bio load. I don;t suggest getting one. I would suggest some time of corydas cats or a school of ottos. If you decide to get ottos make sure that you are NOT I repeat NOT purchasing Chinese algae eaters, they become very big and very aggressive. members here cam back me up on this one! what size tank is this for? that helps us out a ton! hope this helps! -fishlover78

whoops! just noticed it was for a 35 gal. your aquarium info says you have a clown pleco? so why do you need another bottom feeder? just wondering! If you want more bottom dwellers I would say get a school of ottos as I said before (which means 2 to 4 for your tank size) that would be more than enough bottom feeders! -fishlover78

Fishlips your tank is 14 days old, is it cycled? Your aquarium info says you don't know about the nitrogen cycle. Here are some links to help you learn about that. Fishlore Articles for Beginners
I personally wouldn't put any more fish in until it is finished cycling.
