I'm trying to get a snail farm running in my 5 gal. I'm looking to see if there's any fish that will work in that tank. Since it's going to be full of snails, and I want them to breed, that rules out dwarf puffers, bettas, and ADFs. Does anyone have any suggestions of what will work in 5gs and not eat snails or their eggs?

3 sparkling gouramis or 3 endlers.

Hm... I haven't seen any of those fish in my LFS... but maybe there are some.

Can you breed shrimp? My puffs would like that too

Also... do guppies need to be kept in groups? I know nothing about them, lol. Cause they seem like they stay pretty small... But if they need buddies it'll be too small for them.

I love Sparkling Gouramis. I had a few once. They are very pretty and sometimes will make a croaking sound. That is why they are also called Croaking Gouramis. I don't see them very often, but I do know of a store about a half-hour from me that carries them.

There's a really great store about a half hour away from me... I could check there to see if they have them.

My snails breed like crazy in my betta tanks... don't know why they dont' seem to in yours. I don't see how guppoes would be a bad choice.

Would they work in a 5g? How many?

I've had Guppies in a pair before... they seemed fine to me (Well of course they didn't tell me personally, but that's just my assumption ). Now that I have several, they only interact with each other... 24/7. I always thought they could be kept by themselves, but I've been wrong before. I doubt they would need to be kept in groups, but since they seem to be social fish from my observation, looks like they may need some company.

I think I'm gonna go with 3 guppies... and maybe a few ghost shrimp. Along with all the crazy snails... lol.
