Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

male to female gourami ratio question

I have 4 gourami's in my tank. Now that I know more about the sexing of these fish I think I have 3 males and 1 female. They get along alright but the males do annoy the female with attention (not nipping just like to go by her close and some times give the male attention with a side turn if that makes sense) She gets annoyed and goes and hides for a while.
I was wondering if I added another female if this would help.
I have a 55 gal tank with some other fish all pretty calm and cool with each other.
Like I said they're not hurting her, and she is active when she is out, playing in the bubbles is one of her favorite things to do when I turn them on. Just wondering if it would help the dynamics.
The males don't bother each other 2 kind of stick together, the other roams around.
Advice please

P.S.
They are dwarf gourami's, sorry forgot to mention that

I'm not looking to breed my gourami's but have a ratio question that a breeder would most likely know.
I think I have 3 male gourami's and one female in a 55 tank with some other fish. (I didn't know the sex of the fish when I got them)Everyone gets along fine but the males give the female more attention than she wants. Not aggressive just close swim with a kind of turn like I have seen on the internet when they mate. It is kind of a half effort at best more like a "hey babe hows it going" than an actual mating. Not nipping either.
This gets her annoyed and then she will go hide for a bit.
She likes to be out and play in the bubbles at times when I have them on.

My question is should I get another female so the ratio is better? My males don't fight 2 kind of stick together and the other one just hangs out.
My girl has a rounder top fin than the males and that is my basis for the sexing.
Advice please.

P.S. Sorry I forgot to mention that they are dwarf gourami's

Ideally, you want to have 2-3 females per 1 male dwarf gourami. Most people only keep one male, because they typically fight, but you said that your males were doing well together so don't worry about that. What you're describing, though, is precisely why it is recommended to keep more females than males: the male will harass the female, and the females will experience less stress if the harassment is spread out over more than one of them, if that makes any sense. So to answer your question, yes, another female or two would help your girl not be as stressed.
