Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

55 gal stock

My 55 gallon is completely cycled, and I'm planning on starting to add fish this weekend, so I wanted to post my final stock to make sure that I'm not running into any major problems...I don't think I am, but I've made some minor changes since I last posted.

What is definitely going in (fish I already have):
1 male powder blue gourami
1 female red wag swordtail
1 sterba's cory cat (I think that's what it is...it's a twin of the cory on the front of the Hikari sinking wafer bag)

What I'm planning on adding (not all at once):
8 hatchets (3 marble, 2 marthae, 3 silver)
4 female gouramis (1 flame, 1 honey, 1 sparkling, 1 licorice)
1 more female swordtail
1 male bolivian ram
1 upside down catfish
3 more cory cats to go with my current one
1 rubber nose pleco
1 clown pleco
1 Siamese algae eater

I realize I'm a bit overstocked, but I'm prepared to keep up with the maintenance. The tank will be planted. Any minor adjustments would be appreciated!

It sounds pretty good As far as I know, upside down catfish like to be kept in groups. Just out of curiosity, where are you getting all of your female dwarf gouramis? They are so hard to find in my area. All I ever see are males.

My LFS will order them in for me . They don't normally stock them where I live either, except for the honey dwarfs. There seems to be a pretty even mix of the sexes for that color for whatever reason...I don't know why those and not the others. PetSmart actually carries both sexes of all the color variations, but those poor fish are in terrible health. Frayed fins, cloudy eyes, dull color, and just not at all active like gouramis should be.

I didn't know that about the catfish...I guess I should have figured though, that seems to be the trend with the cats. I may try for another ram or something instead...maybe a german gold if my LFS can get them, they look gorgeous.

You could go with a female ram and they may spawn in your tank
