| 30 gallons I have a 30 gallon, uncycled tank with 2 neon tetras, 5 glowlight tetras, and 2 male guppies. I added the fish before I knew about cycling.
I've been thinking about what else to add once the tank's ready, and I'd like some advice on my ideas.
I might add:
3 or 4 male guppies (4 if my sick guppy dies; otherwise, 3)
3 otos
1 platy or 1 molly
I'd add more neons, but the 2 I have school with the glowlights, so I don't think I need any more.
Does this sound good? Any suggestions? |

| I thought male guppies end up fighting w/ each other. I love molliez they are so cool!!! |

| I think that's bettas-- Alessa said that if I add more guppies, there won't be as much agression as there is with just the two. |

| IMO mollies do better in a slightly brackish tank but will still be okay in your setup I just think they require slightly different conditions to be real healthy |

| I would personally add maybe 5 cories because they like to school and a few more guppies and forgo the rest.
Cories are adorable |

| I have been told that just male guppys may fight even to the death.. i do not think this is true all the time. As I have two males and two females, when the boys stop flirting with the girls they like to hang out together and swim together they are 2 difrent strains. |

| I've revised my plan, tell me what you think:
In addition to the fish I already have, which are:
1 male guppy (the sick one died)
2 neon tetras
5 glowlight tetras
I would have:
3 male guppies
1 dwarf gourami
3 corys
Using the 1 inch/gallon rule, that gives me 1.5 gallons left over. Is that too many fish, or does that sound good? I researched all the fish, and I think they'll be compatible, but tell me if I'm wrong on anything.
Also, keep in mind that I'm going for a colorful tank, which is why I picked the dwarf gourami and the guppies.I know pinkfloydpuffer said to get 5 corys, but I don't think I'd have room for that many. |

| The thing is, the inch per gallon rule is more of just a guideline. You can go over, you just have to be a bit more careful, and with you, that would just be a tiny bit over, so it shouldn't matter too much... |

Do you mean that my current plan is fine, or that I can have 5 corys instead of 3? |

| They are a great selection.
If you like more fragrance of colorful fishes, you can try lyre tail guppies (MALE) regular male guppies, and some neons. They shouldn't be aggressive to your guppies.
Just try to get more laid back fishes, because most of them tend to be very dossile, and they aren't too much of a hassle, and they can be very fast sometimes.
I have a few danios with my guppies, and some aussie rainbows |

| Yup, I said it.
I would recommend at least another two guppies, it is true, they are not schooling fish, but they will live happily if they have someone "to talk to"
and also, dont add anymore fish until you're cycled. It is horrible when you buy your fishies just to lose them right away! |

Luckily, the fish I have right now are healthy, thanks to daily water changes, and I'll wait a while after my tank cycles before adding any fish. And speaking of adding fish...
If I go along with my current plan of adding 3 guppies, 1 dwarf gourami and 5 corys, in what order should I add the fish? I will get the first group around two weeks after the tank is cycled, so I don't know which fish will be more sensitive to water parameters. Any suggestions? |

| Water parameters are important, but so is temperament. After the tank is definitely cycled, I would start with the Cories because they can be a little timid. Give them some time to get comfortable and then do the guppies and then the Gourami. Last edited by Beeker; October 22nd, 2008 at 08:45 PM.

| I know that corys are sensitive to changes in water conditions, so I wouldn't recommend adding them first. I have no experience with guppys, so I can't help you there. I know I got a 10 gal, and before I knew about the nitrogen cycle, I bought a dwarf gourami (among others), and he actually did very well through the cycle. Never lost color or looked stressed (I was doing daily water changes of course). However, I'm not sure if that is a breed characteristic or if I just ended up with a hearty gourami. Maybe someone more experienced can comment? |
