Help Stocking my 26 gallon planted tank.

Hey everyone, I am going to be stocking my 26 gallon long planted aquarium soon, and I wanted to make myself a stocking plan. I've had plenty of ideas, but here is another one of my thoughts. Please edit it if you want to, and tell me if there are any problems with it...

- 2 Discus
- 5-7 Harlequin Rasboras (How many?)
- 4-6 Corydoras Catfish (How many?)
- 1 Bristlenose Pleco

Do you think this will work? Im kind of doubting it... Do you think there will be too much aggression between 2 Discus?

Also, I already have 5 Harlequin Rasboras, and 4 Corydoras Catfish in another tank that will be going into this new one.

Thanks a lot, great to be on the forum!

If I'm not mistaken, don't discus need much bigger tanks? They get really large...something like 8". Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think one discus would be happy in a 26 gallon tank, much less two.

Yes, that's right. They need to be kept in groups of at least 5, and they require warmer water than the fish you mentioned. They need larger tanks (at least 55 gallons), and are very expensive. Besides the Discus, the stocking is good. I think you should add a "center piece" fish that's a little bit bigger (say around 5"?) and immediately catches your eye. Maybe a Gourami of some kind.

Discus most certainly NO, like everyone else has and will say.

Even a simple male swordtail will work as a centerpiece fish, or a platy even. Just that burst of color that sticks out like a sore thumb. I have 2 male swordtails and I havent had any major aggression... YET. Picking at each other once and awhile but thats about it, and my male micky mouse platy usually breaks up their fighting.

I'd go for about 8 harlequins, 5 cories, 1 Bn pleco, and 1 male swordtail OR 2 male platies.

Thanks everyone. I was pretty sure the Discus wasn't a good idea, so at least I can get rid of that idea. Thanks Butters, I actually like your idea, and I'm going to consider it for when I decide for sure. But, also, I was just thinking now...

One of my ideas before this one, involved 5-7 harlequins, 4-6 cories, 10 neon tetras, 1 bristlenose pleco, and 1 angelfish.
I was told it wasn't the best idea since the angel will harass the neons, but what if neons are just out of the picture, and it would get along with everything elde?

Would I be able to pull off:

- 5-7 Harlequin Rasboras
- 1-2 Angelfish
- 4-6 Corydoras Catfish
- 1 Bristlenose Pleco

Can this be done? Also, I was told that the BN pleco will eat some plants? Is this true? Because, I definitely don't want any plant eaters my planted tank, so would a couple of otos be a better idea?

If you want angels, only go with 1 or else they will probably get pretty grouchy, but make sure you tank is at least 18" tall before even getting one. Yes, the neons would probably end up being bright colored snacks for your angel. I'm not sure about the BN pleco eating plants, maybe someone more knowledgable will come along, or you could just....

I'm not expert, but from what I've heard the only good way to keep 2 angels is to get a mated pair or else they will fight. As butters said above, they also like taller tanks. I think you'd be better off with swordtails or platys, gouramis, or even a ram or two would get along with the rest of your stock, excluding the angels of course.

I'm not sure about that breed of pleo...I know Coryd55 breeds them though, so maybe he'll see the thread or you could pm him, he should be able to answer your question.

angels and neons should be okay if you add the neons first and get a small angel.

Rams and angels are more than okay if they have their own territory. I have an angel about 3 inches and a mating pair of rams and when they are in the same tank the arguments are short then everyone goes to their own corner
