Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Hello Steen16
I would think that you can add more fish to your 65g. It would depend on what kind you are interested in adding. Any thoughts on what you would like to add?

What do your nitrates get to right before you do water changes? You've got some pretty big fish in there.
Extra filters do nothing to help get rid of nitrates, and with the fish you've got, the nitrate levels are probably getting pretty high. The difficulty of adding more fish (aside from swimming space, and I know nothing about cichlid behavior) is keeping the nitrates from spiking too high between water changes.

This isn't to say that an extra filter is a bad idea. You can never have too many filters running, as long as you don't turn your tank into a whirlpool. It's just that there's a limit to what they can do.

yea the nitrates are very low actualy quite hard to even notice on the test kit(API master kit).. i do regular water changes and gravel vacumes probly once or twice a week wich i think helps keep the nitrate down..

I am actualy unsure of what fiah i want or could get wich i would like a bit of help with also.. at the moment the severums and the geophagus are at the same size of about 4 inches..

any sugestions would be nice

thanks

you might not get many nitrates with a planted tank..but really make sure you are banging that #2 bottle for a good minute off the counter or something hard to mix up those crystals...they are a pain to mix but better than a false reading ..goodluck on whaterver you decide!

Firemouths are pretty Good choice! Just make sure that you will still have room in your tank once all of the fish reach their adult sizes.
