Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

3 guppies in a 20 gal...

My "daughter" has a 20 gal w/ 3 guppies we rescued from my 50 gal. It's a cute tank but we would like to add alittle more. Any suggestions? It's somewhat near a window so I think we may get a snail, but other than that we're open to suggestions. In the 50 we have 2 black angels, 10 tiger barbs, one snail and 8 neon tetras so we kinda want to stay away from those. Well, maybe 2 angels. Help!!

-Freshwater shrimp do well with guppies. (Cherry red, Crystal red, Neon green, Yellow, or Blue shrimp. All that I mentioned are in the Cardinia or Neocardinia genera. )

-Some smaller loaches may work

-Platies

-Swordtails

-Some of the smaller rainbow fish might work

Bunches of other stuff that would probably work also, but my brain is a bit fried right now.

Kind King,
Could I put 2 baby angelfish in with the guppies? In my big tank every body gets along, I think it's because everybody has somebody and I bought the angels big and the barbs little. But the angels are sooooo graceful.

If the angels are small I'd say you could get away with it for a little bit. They would have to eventually go back to the big tank. Look into getting about 6 cherry barbs... they are really fun fish to watch and males get extremly good looking during mating. Then a nice little school of cories for the bottom would work very nice.

I would move the neons over - since when the angels are full grown there is a very good chance they will have the poor neons for lunch.

In a 20 gal you could do a school of threadfin rainbows, maybe some dwarf neon rainbows instead (I don't have my numbers in front of me right now so I can't remeber if a 20 would be big enough for them.
