| the evil empty 10 gal I've got an empty 10 gal and it's driving me nuts I keep looking at it going "what do you want!!!". So here is an idea that's I've been toying with. I don't have my heart set on anything yet b/c the tank has nothing, just a hood.
So,
1 Female betta (for looks)
3 Kuli loaches (for activity)
2 otos or Cory's
I was thinking a planted tank with driftwood and if not sand then a small grade smoothed gravel.
or
sand substrate
diftwood and plants
with:
? Kuli loaches
and somthing for a splash of color. (neons?)
or
some sort of active fish
Any suggestions? What do you guys think? |

| I think 10gal is a bit small for khulis.
I think 6 Threadfin rainbows in the planted would be really pretty and active. |

| Decide which one of those fish you really want, then work around that.
If you're set on the kuhlis, maybe a Dwarf Gourami with them?
or
5 neons and 3 cherry barbs
A male betta and 3 smaller variety corys
A female betta and 5/6 rasboras
6 Threadfin Rainbows and 5 otos
All these would provide colour and action. You won't get much of that from the kuhlis, since they hide most of the time.
If you decide on corys or kuhlis, they would love a sand substrate, then you could tie Java fern and anubias to the driftwood and have a nice planted tank. |

| Are Guppy's active?
I'll be honest I was originally thinking tiger barbs, but they need a bigger tank. Any fish that are either interesting, active, or interacting amongst themselves would be awesome. |

| Guppies are very active. However, if you decide to get the betta, you cannot use sand, since a lot of bettas have died due to it. |

| ok I've got the stuff for the tank now this is real.
- 5 threadfin rainbows
- 2 ottos (plant algae control)
I'm thinking that the threadfins are about an 1.5" apeice which would pretty much stock the tank alone. However since they school space should be to bad an issue. The otto's probably wouldn't come for awhile since I'm not sure how the alage issue will be with this tank yet.
The tank has an aquaclear 20 on it.
Will have black gravel.
and will be moderately- heavily planted with nice open area in the middle to school
What do you guys think? Correct me if I'm out to lunch.
Thanks, |

Thanks, | Threadfins are 2" apiece - but that would still be fine.
EDIT: Here's a link to my encyclopedia aquatica entry on it. It has more stuff on sexing them, as an extension to what Jess said. They are really lovely fish! http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/433977-post64.html Last edited by Blub; September 29th, 2008 at 03:01 PM.

| I just looked up the Threadfins, they are very beautiful. They suggest 1 male to 2 females as stocking ideas.
The males are more colorful and flare top fin.
Wish I knew of these guys. They look like they'd be fine in a 10 gal. |

| Hmmm.... ok I'm back again. I need some adivce just in case.
I'm having tank troubles so it I decide to toss her (female betta's) tank out what could I put in the 10 gal with her that would still make it active. Could I still try the Rainbows? They'd look nothing like her and will probably be able to outswim her (they're fast from what I've read). I'd have to watch over stocking but with plants and over filter I might still be able to get away with it. |

Observe her personality, is she placid, aggresive or what? |

| Laid back as far as I can tell. She's temporarily in with my RTS at the moment and she swims around and stays out of his way. (of course he's like 4 times the size of her). But she mostly just does her own thing and doesn't really care too much about what's in the tank with her. |

When RTS is out, re arrange the decor (even take some out and replace them with new) so it's like a totalyl new tank, and add 4 threadfins. She should accept them into her territory since they 'come with the house'. |

I think 3 Panda corys if you can't find threadfins. |
