20G stocking....

My friend has a 20G tank that was given to him, MAJORLY over stocked with about 6 godlfish and a 7 inch leopard pleco, the plan is to find new homes for the goldfish and send the pleco back to the LFS.
He would like to change his tank to tropical but doesnt know what to stock, bareing in mind he is a beginner, he has told me that he doesnt like livebearers, all suggestions are welcome, thanks

If starting over with this 20G tank and new fish, a few suggestions for your friend to consider are Tetras, notably Neon or Cardinal Tetras which are very popular in the hobby & American Cichlids including German Blue Rams and Bolivian Rams these get the cute\wow vote from me.

I guess your friend needs to see what fish they like the look of and then check out requirements of those fish notably size of tank and potential for tank mates.

You mention your friend is a beginner? I assume your friend is aware of nitrogen cycle and that water should be tested and changed partially on a regular basis? it is good they have your to help.

Good luck to your friend choosing new fish.

GBR's aren't exactly beggners fish...

What about Danios and Cherry barbs? 8 Zebras and 8 Cherrys?

I wouldn't suggest GBR for beginner's either, but if he does enough research on them and pays close attention to parameters he can do it. Smaller barbs, danios, and tetras are always good ideas for tank that size. Also maybe dwarf gourami's, a single rainbow shark, a couple glass catfish could also work. For scavengers could go with a couple khuli loaches, corycats, or otocats. There are probably more fish than you think that can go into a 20 gallon, just can't too many of them. A species tank would be nice, especially shoaling fish like hatchethaven put down.

GBR are not easy to keep at all. Not a good beginners. I vote for a pair of kribs and 6 tetra of some kind.
