I really wonder if i was blessed with docile convicts or what?.........I had a breeding pair that i used to breed fry to feed to my Jack Demsey......After the third hatch, the male became really aggressive towards the female ALL the time.......I guess he wanted to get himself some and she wasnt interested......They were both stellar parents though......Now here is where it gets interesting......I seperated them after the third hatch.......I put the male in a 30 with a bristlenose and bought some tiger barbs for tankmates......He never gave them a second look, and they never bothered him........The female i left in the breeding tank till one night it sprung a leak..........Had to put her somewhere and didnt think introducing her to the male again was a wise choice, i put her in my 55 community tank, figuring the next morning i was gonna be netting all my other fish......She was the best community fish i had in the tank........with 2 different gouramis, 5 danios, and 5 aussie Rainbows, and a school of green tiger barbs, she actually helped keep the nippy barbs in line........All was well, in fact she is 4 inches now and really fat! (girlfriend calls her "Mama Cass").......All the community fish now reside in a 90 with some more rainbows and a few adopted red glass barbs.....The female convict now lives happily with my 11 inch Dempsey and 3 adopted silver dollars..(Yes, i know people, overstocked)in a 75......Convicts i think get a bad wrap because people want to have fry and never consider the ramificatons afterwards.........A sole convict in a tank with other community fish hasnt been an issue for me...........I think your safe to put the tiger barbs in with your convict, but fish are like people............some will just not get along with anyone...................you just never know, so its always good to have a back up plan
