Out of my depth...

Hey everyone, it's me again. I was wondering if anyone would mind giving me a bit of help since I'm about to enter unknown territory. Sharing a house with two other room-mates (not entirely fish orrientated), they've decided that they'd like to have a tank as well. (It'll be mine but it'll upstairs in the common area). Now I'm familiar with bigger fish, and more agressive fish, but that's not going to work. I was thinking of trying for a very active tank, and if I could slip a female betta into it that would be great but if not she's happy in her little home.

The tank I have is a 10 gal however I could probably get ahold of a 20 long if the right stocking idea caught my mind.

Please any and all help is appriciated since I'm completely out of my depth with all these little fish.

Thanks in advance,
Red

If you can manage a 20, you can put in more fish and thus have more activity. We have a 10 with a betta male and 3 cories. It isn't active very much but the splash of betta blue is gorgeous. We also have larger tanks. If you have a way to sell fry, you may want to consider a tank with live bearers. We've had a 55g tank of purple Moscow guppies and now have a 20 g tank of limia perugiae and 29g of guppies. The adults are fairly active and the babies really add to the movement. You just have to have a way to move the fry because they keep coming

I have a ten, it sits empty at the moment. However my LFS is going out of buisness and are selling off their 20 gal tanks. So I'm taking stocking ideas for both. If I find an idea for a 20 that I really like then I might pick up one of their tanks.

At the moment I have in my posession a ten.

I'd like to stay away from livebears/easy breeders if I could, I don't think I'm ready for that yet.

Ok So I've been thinking on it and here are some idea's.

For a 20 gal
glass catfish x5
Kuli loaches x4+
some sort of schooling fish

or
Kuli loaches
Rainbows (of some unknown variety yet)

For a 10 gal
divide and "give" each room-mate a betta
or
?

I think the glass cats are a bit big for a 20gal realisticly since they are schooling fish. 6 Khulis and 6 2" tetras (same species) would be very nice. If I where you, I'd get 6 Dwarf neon or Threadfin rainbows (the small ranbows) and 6 Khulis.

In the 10gal, it''s wise to only get 1 Betta. With all the diseases going around Betta at the moment, it's not wise since if 1 of them is infected, and the other isn't, the uninfected can catch it.

From another thread "I still do not think you should keep your redtail shark in the 10G" You should just move it to the 20Long when you get it and build around that

I was thinking of trying to get a 30-36 gal for him.
