I have to say this is the most stressful thread I've read yet.

I'm working on that. Things should be better shortly.

I HAVE COME TO A DECISION!!! I'm thinking a planted tank with:

1 dwarf gourami
1 female betta
2 otocinclus OR dwarf frog OR 2 dwarf cories

and possibly,
4 neons

Please do comment on my selection, but with reason

I like you're 'within reason'.

I'd say 1 dwarf gourami OR 1 female betta, I wouldn't do both.

2 otocinclus OR dwarf frog OR 2 dwarf cories could work. If you put them with a betta, keep your eyes out for signs of aggression.

4 neons would look good too.

Thanks, Lucy

right now i'd say,
Betta or other centerpiece fish like a platy or a peaceful dwarf cichlid
Dwarf frog
and the neons

I might as well just leave the Dwarf gourami in his 14g, there's no point in disturbing him

Neons can be fin nippers, I'd be very wary putting them in with a betta.
In my post, I meant the neons by themselves, without the betta.

We currently have a 2.5 with a Betta and 2 dwarf Albino Corys and they work great. I had 2 Julii Corys in there instead of the Albinos but something about that little black dorsel fin on the Juliis just annoyed the Betta. With the Albinos he totaly ignors them. I think you are on the right track with your possible selections.

Ok then, so I am either going to put the 2 otocinclus instead of the neons or just get something other than a betta that won't destroy my plants.

The betta, the otos, the dwarf frog (make sure it's not the clawed kind. They will eat fish as large as a small betta. The un-clawed kind are peaceful) would be an excellent selection.

You've got your centerpiece/top-dweller, your cleaners/bottom-dweller, and your oddity. That's an awesome selection for a 7g tank.

I'd have to say african dwarf frog for your 5 gallon, they are hilarious, just make sure tank is completely sealed. A small shoal of neon tetras or cherry barbs would work too. Could get an african clawed frog as well but he would need bigger tank before too long as he starts to grow.
