Well my 55 gallon is finally cycled. I currently have 6 cherry barbs in it. I plan to wait about 2 weeks to built up bacterial colonies in a filter sponge for my quarantine tank. Once I do that I plan on getting more fish and thats where you guys come in.

The only fish I really have in my mind right now is Angelfish and dwarf gouramis. If you guys cab give me some stocking advice as well as suggestions that would be great because I'm not sure what kinds of fish would go good or not.

angels and dwarfs are like a 50/50 chance. They might get along or hate each other to death!

Is it planted? maybe some hatchet fish (all types school together) and some ghost catfishes (k. minor)?

it is not planted, maybe the future though! And I don't really want to go for the hatchetfish because I don't want to have to worry about fish jumping out of my tank.

Ok... Hmmmm... Well, a 55 would make a really nice home for the angels...
maybe a school of cories as well?

Or a Dwarf gourami, a huge school of neons, and a school of cories?

How many dwarfs could I get. I would love to get a group of them.

well, with dwarfs it is hard, they are like bettas "unique" personalities.

I had luck with two in my 29 gal, until they died of iridovirus (please check the stickied iridovirus thread in the gourami forum page). they behaved well and each had their territory.

If you have no angels in the tank (although I have heard of some people having luck with that combo, I would personally not try it), I would say 3-4, as long as there are enough plants and caves for them to have their territory well defined. The most important thing is to have a longish tank instead of a tall one.

I've recently added a school of 6 Dwarf Neon Rainbowfish into my 55 gallon. From what I've read, they appear to be peaceful fish, grow to about 2-3", and should mesh well with Angels. Angels are a future plan of mine, so they had better!!

Mine are a very active school, swiming and playing all the time. They seem to be very social (with me at least) as they tend to come up to the glass everytime I enter the room.
