Help/10 gal tank. 2-plattys, 2-guppies, 1dojo
My 2 guppies are now dead. 1st guppie died yesterday. Didn't really examine. Checked tank levels. All was well. When I left today, other guppie was doing well. Came home tonight from work to find him in the corner, the platty's were attacking him one at a time. One fin appeared to have been ripped out and part of his innards were bulging out on that side. I removed him immediately into a quarantine tank but it was too late. Within just a few hours he died. Has anyone heard of platty's attacking guppies. Was this a bad move on my part or is it possible they became sick and the platty's attacked? I had the guppies for about 1 week.

Welcome to Fishlore. I'm sorry to hear that you lost a couple of fish.
It is likely that they are feeling cramped and that's why they were picking on each other. Platies are bigger and stronger than the guppies, so they'd win the fights.

welcome to fishlore!! sorry you lost your fish
your info says you have ammonia and nitrites so im guessing it was the lack of your tank being cycled ...heres a link for you to read http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm
daily water changes of at least 50% with some prime will help you get through the cycle
goodluck!

Hi mrhunttj Welcome to Fish Lore
I'm really sorry about your guppy.
I couldn't help but notice you say you water levels are all ok, but in your aquarium info says Ammonia is 1.0, Nitrites are 20, and Nitrates are .5. Your levels are toxic to your fish.
Your tank is either going through a mini cycle or it was never cycled to begin with.
If I were to guess, I'd say the guppy was weakened by the water parameters. Other fish will pick on weaker ones.
You should start doing daily water changes to get your levels down and continue that until your readings are 0 for both ammoinia and nitrites with some nitrates showing.
If you use Prime as your water conditioner, it'll detoxify the ammonia for 24hrs and make it less toxic to your fish.
Goos luck.

My guppies may have been sick. The one that died first had a bulging eye. Now that I've read a number of other peoples posts I have found one commenting on this problem. Still comments on other peoples experiences would be nice.

Although I forgot to change my data....water levels, ph, ammonia, nitrates and nitrites had finished cycling. I was reading fine on all levels prior to adding the guppies.
Thanks though. I will still keep checking them to monitor them.

It could have been popeye, it's a symptom rather than a disease in itself, usually of poor water quality, which you have.
Edit: You posted whule I was typing. If your water readings aren't correct, you should update your aqaurium info.
What are your readings?

Ammonia is at zero, nitrites .5, nitrates 20, ph 7, temp a little higher about 76. Just changed and updated tank info

For whatever reason, your tank isn't cycled anymore if you have nitrites.
Water changes are in order.

You can try maracyn-two or triple sulfa. I'm not sure if you have inverts or if those meds are compatible with invert.
