Planning, planning, planning...

Well I've been away for a week and I come back to find that my red-tail shark (Red), has grown... (at least a cm by eyeball measure) I just moved him into a ten gal and if he keeps this up I may be upgradeing him to a 36gal sooner then I thought. (the 36 is just kind of a idea right now) However since I started thinking about that so I have a few stocking Idea's I want you guys to take a look at for me. THey're still in the thinkering stage since I won't be setting the the 36 for at least a month or so but let me know if I'm on the right track.

In the upragded 36gal:
I was thinking Red (of course), some spledid rainbows (3 minimum) and maybe a dojo loach(?) The tank will be well planted (I love my plants). Good, bad any suggestions?

Now that the 10 is "hypothetically" empty. What do I do with it?
It's over filtered, planted, and cycled. I was thinking a betta and maybe 3 kuli loaches? though I think that's over stocked.

Anyway let me know what you think and if any of those compatabilities are off.

If you want a betta, try a couple platies or swordtails. NO TETRAS or flashy fish (i.e. guppies). I think the loaches would overstock it and quite probably try to eat the betta's fins. I have a 10g with the above combination (platies, swordtails) and the social interactions between the fish are quite amusing :-) Just make sure you put in a few of the platies and swordtails in with the betta all together. I have found through trial and error that is the best way to prevent betta aggression towards those fish. Now they all school and feed together, which is fun to watch.

Personally, I'd never chance a betta with anything but cories or ottos, possibly a snail.
It really depends on the betta's personality. I've seen too many threads where someone ended up hurt or killed.

If a snail, get a small one.... bettas like to slice off the tentacle/eye/whatever comes out of them. I've tried many times, but I've never had a betta that tolerated the larger snails. (~.5" diameter). Like Lucy said, be careful with the betta at first, but if you succeed, they will be a joy to watch.
