29 Gallon Aquarium

So, I have been talked out of putting a single firemouth in my 29g with my pleco. I was told it would be possible to keep 6-8 of the smaller african cichlids (ones that max out between 4-6 inches) in the tank, and I was wondering which ones may go well together?

Also, would 6-8 be too many? Should I stop at 4 or 5?

If you are interested in setting up your tank with cichlids, you should check out this link: http://www.cichlidforum.com/articles...cutter_29g.php it will give you a great starting point to plan your stocking.

Let us know what you decide!

I would say two or three would be pushing it in a 29g... cichlids need space for territories and to swim, not to mention that would be a large bioload for a tank that size with 6 inch fish (which by the way 6 inches long is NOT 6 inches of fish, a typical 6 inch African has a total inch size of around 10 to 12 inches per fish)

Not any Malawi should be in a 29g...33g is the smallest I would keep them in. B/c of its length
In a 33g you could keep 10-12 Malawi Mbuna of 4-5" Over crowding a bit is a must with Malawi. 1 male to at least 3 females. Lots of rock work.

Lake Tangiyaka shelldwellers would be pretty cool.

How big to discus get? Would it be possible to keep 2 of them in a 29g tank?

They are really sensative (as sensative as Discus) so I guess Cognizat wouldn't want something that hard. Bolivian rams or Cockatoo apistos would be cool though! And what happened to angels?
