I'd choose ottos or cories, not both with the betta, but that's just my opinion.
See if someone else comes along who've kept ottos and cories together.

pygmy corys can be up to 2 inches long so that would be a bioload issue to have 5 of them in a 10g.... same thing with the otos. So maybe go with 1 betta, 3 corys and 3 otos... that would be pushing it a little but with good filtration and live plants it should be ok. You can put a lot of java fern in a 10g =) It grows slowly enough that you wont have to keep it in check too much, just make sure you snip off any dead or dying leaves whenever you see them. I would also recommend using at least a 15 to 20 watt flourescent light and a good basic fertilizer like Flourish.

Hmm... well however much you think looks good lol, really there isnt a 'set amount' for plants... just the more you put in the more fertilizer you will need to keep them healthy, also a product called Excel (also made by Flourish) is good to use with a high amount of plants unless you want to use an expensive CO2 setup

1. The otos will eat algae wafers or algae off the glass and plants... they should be fine in a FULLY CYCLED tank, just make sure you acclimate them longer than normal, I would say half an hour or longer to be safe

2. Corys will eat flakes that sink to the bottom, pellets, frozen foods, or live bloodworms.... just keep in mind that they only eat from the bottom of the tank!

3. No they wont do anything to the plants... Otos will actually help the plants by eating algae off the leaves, thats why a lot of people (including me!) get them

Question : Do you know the proper way to acclimate your fish?

EDIT, I already covered the lights in my earlier post, just read up a few posts

Yes i Do

Well what I do is let the fish in their bags then flot the bag for half an hour to 1 hour in my tank to let the temperature even then I add a little bit of mt tank water to the tank and wait for 10 minutes then I release them.

Is that the correct way to do it

Yep I usually go around 30 to 45 minutes myself, and adding water from my tank every 10 minutes or so =)

so we pretty much do the same thing haha

Ok so how does a tank like this sound to you?

1 male betta
3 julii corydora
3 otocinclus
2-3 java fern with a tan colored gravel how do you think that would look?

acclimating: lett the bag sit in the tank un-opened for 15-20 mins, then open the bag and add 1/2 cup of water every 8-10 mins...repeat this about 4 times (maybe 5-6 times for otos) then net the fish and put them in the tank...NEVER add the water from the bag to the tank

your setup sounds good...i would start with 4-5 javas and 2 anacharis...those are low-light plants that will do fine with a little flourish

Sounds good! Java fern is pretty easy to keep in large numbers without much ferts (slow grower), but for a fast grower like hygro to keep large numbers in a tank that size ferts will probably be needed.

Just a little unrelated, but the 'Julii' corys at your LFS are probably mislabeled leopards. Juliis are really rare - Leopards are dead common. There is little difference between the 2 species, just thought you'd like to know.
