Stocking my 65G....

Ok so i have a 65G tank and it currently has

1 pair of convicts and fry- 8 inches when full grown (not including fry)
1 pair of marble angels- 12 inches when they fully grow
1 opaline gourami-6 inches when fully grown
1 chinese algae eater-4 inches

which adds up to 32 inches of fish.

I would like to add more fish, im definitly getting atleat 5 ottos so that leaves me with 24 inches of fish ( it should be 27 but i dontl ike ufll stocking)

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

If no-one has any great idea i can get some more marbles because i like them.

I'm a firm believer that the inch per gallon rule is thrown out of the window when dealing with cichlids. And i've only seen maybe 3 convicts ever to push 6-6.5".

Is the current pair of angels a breeding pair or just a pair as in 2?

your convicts are 8 inches? holy smokes!!

IMO ben I wouldnt stock anything else until you see how your parents are going to be...I had my tank stocked and had to remove EVERYTHING once the fry were free swimmers..the parents kept everyone on one side of the tank and thats not fair to them but thats just my opinion

you will especially have issues if you have a mating pair of angels and convits..oh the battles ahead!

not 8 inches each, between the two.

Well im going to buy loads of plants when i go to the fish store tomorrow or sunday, at the moment im thinking, 5 otos and 2 firemouths.

keyholes are to peaceful to go with convicts.

Well the fry are now starting to swim a little so tomorrow they should be free swimming and we will se what happens

Im certainly expecting the male convict to rough up the new comers a bit but hopefully it doesnt get to nasty *fingers crossed*

By the way shawnie, i managed to upload a video of my convicts+other fish onto my convict fry thread if u havent seen it

Ok so i went to the LFS and asked about firemouth cichlids with the convicts and they said, the convicts would be extremely aggresive to new fish because the fry are now starting to swim, they said if i do add more fish it should be a bigger and more hardy cichlid like an oscar or a jack dempsey and would be best to put them in when the convicts have no fry.

I like the colour of jack dempseys and they dont get as big as oscars so i might get one.
Can people give me information on keeping oscars and/or jack dempseys please as i have never had either of these fish before. All help is very much appreciated

About the CAE - he will suck the cichlids dry - I'm sure you've heard of it. I actually heard of one sucking about 50 angels to death in one night!

They turn from algae eating to fish eating as they get older.
