any suggestions for fish?
i recently got a 29g, and i have cycled it and moved my old fish into it, but now i don't know what else to put in the tank. i was thinking of adding 2 more kuhlis and 2 more otos and some cherry shrimps, but other than that i have no plan. i was thinking of maybe a couple of angels, but i'm not sure if i have room. stocking suggestions are appreciated. also: what should i do with my old 10g? there's currently nothing in it.

You couls always put a divider in the 10 gal. and have 2 bettas! That's what I did with mine. Then you could save 2 little cup bettas...

Rainbows? A ten gal would be big enough for a few of the varieties... I can't remeber which off the top of my head though sorry.

That would be Dwarf Neon Rainbows which get to be 2" long at adult size.

I think a 10gal would be to small for active fish like Dwarf neon rainbows... It could hold 10 ember tetras though!

A 10g would be perfect for a betta and a couple of ottos or a small school of tetras.

another possibility i was considering was moving the minnows to the 10g, then i would have more room in the 29. i'm still not sure what i would put in there though...
if i put the minnows in the 10g, could i also have a betta in there as well, or would it be too crowded?
thanks for all the tips

I don't think that minnows should be in the tank with a betta. Bettas are slow moving & minnows are very fast.

Betta can only be kept with corys and Otos. Minnows will nip his fins like crazy!

Otos are sociable, so the only good one is 3 corys 1 Betta.

The Betta might eat the shrimp, so it probably not a good idea. I have Panda Cories, bexause they max out at 2" and I'm slightly overstocked, but I do like them. I also like false julli's (sometimed labled as leopard cories) and peppered cories.

No shrimp with a Betta. When the shrimp molt - they are vulnerable and make tasty Betta snacks! I would get one of the smaller cories, and add them first. Panda corys are cool and cute!

what should i do for substrate if get corys and a betta? i know that corys should have sand because of their barbels, but i read that bettas will think the sand is food and try to eat it. would rounded gravel be ok, or would it still hurt the corys?
thanks for the great info you've given me!

Rounded gravel should be okay. You could also use flat glass marbles.
