tetra safestart will help save the fish...if you cant get it, immediate 50% water changes and treat the tap water with prime...every 24hrs do a 50% water change ..the prime will lock the ammonia for the 24 hrs..\
ps ...you dont need 3 different threads for the same thing

Most local fish stores carry Safe Start (or could order it in for you), though I have never seen it in any of the chain stores with the exception of Aquarium Adventure, which is a part of the Petland chain. Bio-Spira is much harder to find. A few others have had success with Seachem's Stability or API StressZyme though most say these products are not all that reliable. I've read very few good things about Cycle but the occasional person wil say they have had success. These last three products are usually available at all the chain per stores.
You can definitely mail order Bio-Spira or Safe Start though shipping is usually expensive as the ship it refrigerated.
In any event, none of these products should hurt your aquarium and may provide a bit of a boost in generation your biological filtration, though Safe Start and Bio-Spira will be the best.

Cycle does not acctualy cycle the tank - it removes ammonia and nitrite, but it needs to be added every week. It is basically an expensive false cycle.

Gonna agree with Hatchet. Cycle causes little mini cycles. It contains terrestrial nitrifying bacteria, which die off after a week or so, and need to be replaced. People who have had success with Cycle are either shelling out constantly for it, or got really lucky.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I went looking all over the place for Bio-Spira a while back and it appears to have been discontinued completely. The company that used to make it (MarineLand Labs & TetraAqua) came up with a version that does not need to be refrigerated, Tetra Safe Start, making Bio-Spira basically obsolete. As far as I know Bio-Spira is only available for SW now.
