With all respect to your mom, there's going to be ammonia in your tank from left over food and fish waste. If you don't decrease the ammonia through water changes, your fish will become seriously ill and possibly die.
I'm sorry to be so blunt.
David also had a good sugestion.

huh?
then your fish will inevitably die.
the only solution is daily 50% water changes, and buying a test kit for monitoring water parameters.
and I think you guys should talk so that we all can understand

That isn't necessarily true....we never lost a fish thru a cycle. I am talking back when we first got into fish keeping.

If I was you, this is what I'd do:
Get a liquid test kit, the API master test is AMAZING.
Test the water and do a 50% water change (Test water before water change) every day. This isn't that hard if you have a siphon - when I accidentally stalled my filter on the 7.5gal I was doing 2 50%s a day and it was easy!
DON'T add any more fish... If anything the fish you have are bad choices and overstocked.

Yes, neither did I, (I was sooo little... ) but when a tank of his size is this overstocked chances are that the fish wont make it without the water changes, thats what I meant

The fact that the tetras are stressed without a school adds to that... If they all made it through a fish cycle they would be truly lucky fish!

It's take a month for a tank to be truly cycled...without chemicals. I refuse to use chemicals.
