25 gal hex

WOOO!! So my mothers friend had a tank that he didn't want or use and would give to me. I had no idea what it was until my mom brought it home. Its a 25(i believe) hex tank with lighting, stand, filter, air pump, hose, and even new filter pads!

So now I need to figure out how to stock this bad boy. I have no ideas on what to get. I originally thought a nice school of barbs and neons, but I'm not sure any more. I could try cichlids or who knows! Please give me all the ideas you guys have to offer!

If you want to try cichlids, try a male/female pair of Apistogramma cacatuoides, and perhaps some Neons.

The size is actually a 27g hex and I would only put small tropical fish in there. I had one and hated it...you couldn't see the fish without seeing 3 of the same fish in the reflection. It's tall but there not a lot of surface area.
I had 4 small angels at the time and they weren't happy in it.
Plus I am a camera nut and you cannot get a good pix of an fish in the hex tanks in general (unless you are Martinsmommy).
For free take it and enjoy...kribs would like it in there too.

Ok what about like:

3 Corries
6-8 neon tetras
6 cherry barbs
5 danios

Would that be overstocking or would there be more space. Im not very sure with it being a hex tank

Skip the danios tho...they are very active and the neons are not as active they may pickon them. Mine did years ago in a 20g, 5 of each.

Wait... Let's think. Since they are all small fish, the " per gal guideline should be fairly accurate.

6 Cherry barbs: 12"
6 Neons: 9"
3 Corys: 7"
28" - should be OK.

So it should still be ok even with a hex tank?

Well, I guess the corys aren't the best idea for a hex, so minus them.

I'd get a bristlenose pleco for the hex inmstead of the cories. They are 4" when full grown, exellent algae eaters...they do need wood in the tank...they chew on it.

Why no corries?

They're bottom dwellers - and a hex doesn't have much in the way of a bottom layer. Cherrys and Neons go all over the place!
