Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Our Angelfish Dilema continues....

Just to review, we had two angels in our community who were doing great. Bumble and Sunshine. they were inseperable buddies.

a couple of months ago, we added two more. one of those died and the other one, Callie, hooked up with Sunshine. and they started beating up on Bumble.

we kept looking for a new mate for bumble but couldn't find one. all were too small or too big.

finally at the fish sale, we found just the right size. but when we told the guy at the LFS our situation, he said, don't get ONE, get TWO. an odd number is better and the 5 will all hang out together.

so we got TWO Angels.

well the other three have been relentlessly picking on the two new ones

i've been embarassed to post pics of the new fish, cuz they're pretty tore up.

what should we do?

i don't really have anywhere to move them, except maybe the 15 gal guppie tank and i don't even know if that's a possibility.

For a start, an odd number is definitly not better!, angels are best kept in pairs, if you have 3 or 5 you have a problem, for example, if you bought 5, theres enough for 2 pairs and then one would be left alone, which would be bullied.
Moving them to the guppie tank would be a good idea, but if the angels are big enough, the guppies iwll become their dinner .

Good luck solving this and i hope all 5 angels pull through ok in the end .

I have had 13 in a 120g at one point and all they do is fight. Angelfish do get along better in pairs but sometimes one of the pair is dominant and mean. I recommend keeping the pair alone a 15g is too small. BUT if the angelfish are small enough you could kept them in there temporarily.
My angels look like **** all the time.

Well things seem to have settled down a bit in our community tank with the angels. I had waited to take pics, cuz i didn't know if they would kill eachother.
Here's everybody.....they're all a little tore up but they seem to not be biting eachother so much any more. the two big marbles, Callie and Bumble who used to be bitter enemies are now friends.

Hopefully they'll all just get along now that there are not much fins left to bite!

The last pic, he's kinda been odd man out poor little guy....

I agree. An angel fish tend to pair up, then they may group together. Kind of like two best friends who group with two best friends making a group of four. Then the fifth (the odd one out) gets picked on. It is really hard to make sure that angels pair and group IMO because it is so hard to sex them.

Good luck and I hope that do O.K.
