When it comes off in tatters its a sign of the Chytrid fungus.

There's not much you could have done for them, so don't blame yourself. It can take up to 30 days for any symptoms to appear.

Here's some info about it:

My frogs had 3 of symptons. Thrasing at the surface trying to get out, shedding in shreds and hiding all the time.

I can rest easy knowing i couldn't have done anything else.

Thanks

This isn't my frog, but here ya go:

I haven't heard mine sing either.

I've been watching my new ADF closely for a couple of days now, I think he's showing symptoms of the fungus. I hope I'm being paranoid.
I'm glad he's in quarantine.

!!!

*presses ear to tank*
That's ace, I had no idea! I'll have to keep an eye on them more closely to see if mine do that.

That one's huge in comparison to mine though...
and a much lighter colour.
:S

... re the above post, I've looked at various youtube vids - most of the ADFs on there appear white and speckly. Mine are dark brown / green.
any thoughts?

Are they definatley ADFs?

Mine are brown, The albino ACF (African clawed frog) is white.
The ADF has webbed front feet, the ACF has like claws.

The one in video looked to me to have the webbed front feet and brown..hard to tell because the video was yellowish.
Here's another:

Edit: Ha looks like same video, that frog gets around. lol

Old Frog is thriving in his 5g and has gotten to waiting in his food dish for me. lol

New Frog is about the same, he's still in the 3g.
He hangs at the top most of the time and won't eat much. I got him to eat a little brine shrimp and 2 blood worms the day before yesterday.

When you lost your, how long did it take them to show symptoms before they passed?
He's looking pretty skinny.

The frog in the 5g tank sounds awsome lol

I'd only had mine for about a week when they passed so they could have had it for 3 weeks before.

Mine were eating for a few days then they stopped. Then they all started floating.

I went to the pet store where i got mine from and they had lost all of the ADFs since i bought mine. Sounds like they must have had that fungus disease before i bought mine.

I don't know if this helps, Sorry

Lucy,
You mentioned you have a skinny frog.

I have 2 ADFs that i bought together - one is fat and growing, the other is small and very thin...

Steve, are they together? I wondered how I would make sure they're both eating. If they ever make it to the same tank.

How long have you had them?

Both together.
Both same age.
Both are seen to eat.

They're both active and lively - both even look healthy but one is just so much bigger.
I just cant explain it.

I think the females are bigger than the male.

The second frog still isn't eating. Sometimes he seems to snap toward the food when it sinks past him so last night I spent about 15 minutes dangling a blood worm in front of him........nothing.
I put it in his dish, but it's still there.

I'm going to try and put him back in the smaller tank, he ate well in there.
If he doesn't, I've read of 2 treatments that might work if he's got that fungus.

This is amazing stuff I've been read about. I hope things work out for these guys as the risk of catching it seems very high.

I'm considering getting one in the future. Do they seem content being alone? Because If not, I will wait until I am ready to get 2 or 3 all at the same time to lower the risk of spreading this on to older ones (I don't currently have a QT).

My understanding is that there is no risk to Fish even if I end up getting an ADF with the disease correct?

Yes, that's my understanding.

Mine seems to be ok on it's own, although I've heard they like company. Steve can probably tell you more about that.
I wish I had gotten 2 at the same time. Even though the second one (the one that died) came from the same store, but it was a few weeks later.
