Hey guys! This is my first post here, though I've been lurking for a month or so. Anyways, I've just recently gotten interested in fish. I did my research and then set up a 12 gallon FW tank. It's fairly new and is cycling still with 3 platies (don't worry, I'm doing daily water changes). I didn't pay much attention when buying the platies and ended up with 2 boys and 1 girl. One of the males is pretty aggressive and is constantly chasing the other two around. I suppose as long as he's not injuring them, this should be ok, right?

Still, he worries me. Once the tank has finished cycling, I would like to add a dwarf gourami, but I'm afraid this pushy platy will bother him too much.

What are your suggestions? Should I skip on the DG? Would adding more female platies calm the males down?

definitly add more females otherwise the single female will get stressed from all the chasing, a dwarf gourami would be fine but, watch out, there is a disease going around in dwarf gouramis at the moment that kills them 48 hours after they show symptoms of having the disease

you should always have 1m/3-4 females then the harrassing isnt as bad..only thing is in a 12 gallon, thats not enough space not to mention the fry will be coming out your ears LOL ...so maybe return the male platy and get the dg?

Return female platy - the fighting will stop and you won't be overrun by babies!
