A Good Frog!?
So in my most recent episode of fish addiction, I purchased a Tiger Barb and two Green Barbs for my 30 gallon. I plan to introduce at least one or two more in the future, as they seem still a little aggressive and I hear that keeping more of them will help establish a livable pecking order. Aside from the Barbs there is only a mystery snail (I have no idea where he came from!) named Edgar.
I have 2 large live plants and three or four small ones, and but I plan on adding lots more foliage soon. There's a large Airstone (plan on adding another, smaller one -- mostly for decoration), a heater, and a 40 gallon BioWheel.
My boyfriend really wants a frog, and I wouldn't mind having one myself. They're awfully cute! But I don't want one that is going to get very big at all - firstly, am I overstocking this tank by adding a frog? And secondly, can anyone recommend a nice cute little one that will do well in the setup that I have?
Thanks for reading!

Your not overstocked as far as I can see.
If your asking about the (ADF) African Dwarf Frog, they prefer peaceful fish, if any and from what I've read, I don't think I'd consider barbs peaceful. I'm not speaking from personal experience with them, just what I've read.
I got one and was going to put him in with my tetras, instead he got his own 5g and my daughter bought him a friend that's currently in quarantine. I love them!
The (ACF) African Clawed Frogs don't make good take mates for fish, they will probably eat them.
Before you consider purchasing a frog please read this:
Chytrid Fungus in ADF's and ACF's
Good luck.

Thank you!! I will do some research on ADFs. My Barbs are a little rowdy, but they are generally only really bad around meal time (when they bully each other for the choicest food), and I suspect they will be much better when I add more Barbs.

Ha Ha! I know! My husband said what if they don't get along, I told him I'd have to buy another tank...he shrugged his shoulders and said Of course you would, why not.

Your barbs would be happier with more. I love the tiger barbs, they're so pretty.
The other thing I forgot to mention is frogs don't have good eyesight they hunt by smell and could easily starve if the fish get to the food first.
Your boyfriend can always get a 5g and a couple of frogs.

The barbs can be really unpredictable and grow more aggressive if there aren't sufficient numbers, like at least 6 of each. I've heard this story many times...
I would not put the ADF with any aggressive, semi-aggressive, temperamental, or otherwise moody fish. LOL I have had ADFs for a while. I commonly hear of fish like barbs ripping off a frog's foot or leg, in a flash. These cute little guys are very small, the body is the size of a quarter when full grown, and they are very, very fragile. Their legs and feet are very tiny and even shifting gravel can trap them or break a leg. Having said that, in the right setup you'll have no problem with them, they just have special considerations. I have two in a 10 gallon with a female Betta and they are doing great. But the tank is designed for the requirements of *both* the Betta and the frogs.

Hm, I don't want my Barbs to get rough with the little guy! Maybe I need to invest in a new 5 gallon with a frog for my boyfriend... give him the aquarium bug, too.
I am planning on getting more Barbs for their tank (probably 2 or 3 more), but right now I am treating them for ich. I've heard that it's bad to add too many fish at once because of the bioload, so will be a few more weeks before any more Barbs go in that tank. ^_^

The 5 gallon for the frog is a great idea. An even better idea is two frogs. They are very social and enjoy each other's company. They just pile on top of each other sometimes, especially when resting. I think they are even more fun to watch with more than one. It seems to bring out more of their behaviors when they can interact with each other.
You're right to wait for the Ich to clear. I still think you'll need more Barbs though, at least 6 of each type will make them happiest and most likely to live healthy and peaceful(ish). LOL
It's good to add a few at a time like you're doing. If you didn't have the Ich, you wouldn't have to wait so long to add more. Especially with a tank your size, you can add a couple every 5 days or so. That's a rough estimate, I've done it faster and I've done it slower.
