Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Tank Stocking questions.

I now a 29 gallon established tank. Tank is full of holes/caves/cover. I currently have 2 Apistogramma cacatuoide Triple Reds(1 male 1 female). I plan for 1 more female. I also plan for about 3 GBRs.

Would a small school of rummy nose tetras go ok with these guys. (6-8)

pH 7.0
GH 5
KH 4-5

Hi

2 trios of Dwarf chichlids would be a bad idea in a 29gal. Stick to only the Apistos, and leave out the rams if you want live fish! Since they are highly territorial, it is a bad idea to try maintain 2 harems in a relatively small tank like that. 8 Rummy noses and a trio of A.cacatoides would take up about 26" of space. I think I would just up the Rummy nose school to 10 - the more the merrier with tetras! (Also the more the more magnificent!)

I have also found that my apistos were much more aggressive to the D.Cichlids. I had to separate mine at one point. Also noted that apisto's can be aggressive little guys especially the steel blue apistogramma. The apisto's like to hang around the bottom of the tank, so the rummy nose tetras who like to swim at the middle and top would not bother them. I also would not advice getting another pair of apisto's for that size tank.
