stocking plans: comments anyone?
Ok, finally finished cycling my 28gal tank TODAY YAYYYYYY! . My platy and gourami (+2 mystery snails) made it through the BioSpira disaster!
Probably (most likely) this friday I will be going for 2 more fishes for my tank and I have just completed the tank stocking plan (in the order in which I plan to get them):
2 mystery snails (already have)
2 (1)Platies (another boy to make friends with the one already in the tank)
2 (1)Dwarf gouramis (probably a girl to accompany the male I already have?)
2 guppies (males so that they dont interbreed with my platies
4 Neon tetras (maybe 5?)
4 Ghost Catfish
1 suckermouth (the tiny ones)
does it sound reasonable for my tank size and mates? suggestions welcome!!! also how many should I add at a time?

Your plans sound good, but you may want a couple more guppies.
They tend to like being in schools.
So maybe four or five?
Also,
what specifically do mean by suckermouth.
Otos or Corydoras would be nice, but pleasee don't get a pleco.
My parents and I used to have a 60Gal tank, and a pleco that grew to about 20' long. I know that my aquarium info says i have a pleco in my 15Gal, but he's being moved to that big tank as soon as it completes it's cycle.
So unless you plan on getting a bigger tank.... *wink wink*
You COULD get a BN pleco, but that would be pushing overcrouding.

dont get the female dwarf gourami. The male will harrass her constantly and she will get really stressed and then hide... you get the picture
And otos are a schooling fish they need 6 to be comfortable.
Those catfish will get 3 inches long each, and really they are a schooling group too, so I would say ditch them and get more ottos. or you could ditch the idea of ottos, really its your choice.
also it seems to me quite close to being overstocked.

One dwarf gouramis would make a nice show piece for the tank. They can be very territorial and 2 males together is actually worse than a pair.
If you mean pleco as a sucker fish there are pleco that stay small if you can find them like the pitbull only gets about 4 inches long, and bristlenose gets about 5 a word of warning be careful when picking out a pleco some stores use common names for them and you could end up with a 24 inch monster. If you mean an otocinclus catfish by a small sucker fish then they do better in at least a trio, they are great algae eaters. If you mean Chinese algae eater by sucker fish...DON"T do it. When they get older they get mean.
I have a tendency to understock than overstock my tanks, they seem a lot more peaceful and easier to keep up. Less chance of disease since a lot of disease is brought on by stress.

Yeah, understocking is the way to go. Its better than overstocking.

techniqully..they are all catfish...specifically put in their group to to the "whiskers" on the side of their mouths. Some plecos don't get too large...you Could try a small breed like a bristle nose but regardless with that many fish you are going to have to do a good amount of water changes

I wouldn't really advise the Glass (ghost) catfish. They can grow to 6", need to be kept in a school, need a current and planted tank, and are not the easiest to feed, especially when kept with voracious feeders like platies and other livebearers.
A small bristlenose pleco will be fine.

I would say once everything is established, I would put in each species, and if you get another gourami, make sure to rearrange the tank so they will have time to set territories....
Also, fish aren't like people, in a sense that males aren't always friends... I would get a female platy at least.
Maybe cut the guppies, and get more neons...

Ok... Confirmed, I will be getting more fish on friday. (YAY! ) Which should I get first (and how many to avoid sharp spikes WHICH I DONT WANT IN ANY WAY!) i was thinking the neons but given they are a school... how (and how many) should I introduce them in the tank to avoid the spikes?

I would maybe do the neons near the end, since they are a bit more delicate...
Try the platy now, then shrimp, then otos/neons. That way your tank should get ready for the big school...

When I want a school of fish I usually get at least 5. I \get odd numbers for a group of fish. I usually put the school of fish in last after I get the rest of the fish in the tank. I do this because it gives me a chance to really decide how many I am going to get and how the rest of the fish are getting along.

Ok. I think I will get 2 ghost shrimp and either a platy or a guppy (so hard to decide)
do you guys think I could add 2 fishes? or should I stick to 1? I have heard the shrimp barely add any bioload to the tank so...

Okay, so you've got a dwarf guorami, a platy, and two mollies?
You could easily add a few more fish, as long as the platies/mollies don't breed. All one gender is the best way to go, and platies and mollies have the potential to cross-breed if they lack other options, so all males or all females across the board are your best bets.
