What to put in my 15 Gallon?

Hi,
I'm new to Fishlore.com and kinda new to fish keeping. I got a 30 gallon thats doing fine and wanted to put a smaller tank in my bed room because I think fish are fascinating to watch. So I got a 15 gallon and here are the stats:

Marineland 100 w/ Bio-wheel 20 gallon filter
50W Theo HDor heater
Marineland Glass hood with 50W Eclipse bulb
15 lbs of gravel
2 medium (6-8") fake plants
1 fake driftwood

And I was wondering if I missed anything and what type of fish I can fit in here. I was looking at Oscars and thought they were pretty neat looking but soon realized that it would be a horrible idea to keep one in anything less than 55 gallons. Basically I am looking for 1 decent fish to put in the tank and isnt a Danio or Tetra. Are there any fish similar to an Oscar that will thrive is this tank?

Welcome to Fishlore.

You might look at a Dwarf Gourami and a trio of corys in that tank.

You don't happen to own a fish store in Colorado do you? This morning I went to one of the privately owned fish stores in my town and that is exactly what she recommended. And I think its a really good choice. I still have to wait a few weeks for the Nitrogen Cycle but I will update you all on how that works out. Thanks for the advice.

welcome to fishlore!! you could buy a divider and get two bettas although I do like the gourami n corys idea also...goodluck

and to speed up your cycle, cut off some of the filter media from your 30 gallon IF its cycled already, and take a decoration or two and put them in your 10 gallon..that will speed things up nicely!

3 Dwarf puffers wound be really cool. Just make sure the tank is heavily planted.

Wow I didn't know what Dwarf Puffers were so I did some research and they sound like some very fun and interesting fish. Seems like they have more personality than a Dwarf Gourami and 3 corys. Ugh... Now I have to to decide between these two setups.

Dwarf Puffers produce massive waste so you'll want 3g per puffer. Have a backup plan just in case they don't get along with each other. Generally a tank with a lot of plants and caves is going to give the puffers a better chance of getting along. You'll also want to start a snail tank so they can have snails to eat. Those little fish are great and we'd like a tank of them ourselves.

For me I'll suggest any fish that you're interested in. But don't forget to take note on how big will they be when they are adult so just keep that in mind.

My tank cycled and I put a Dwarf Gourami and 3 Peppered Corys. I know there is a dna based virus running around killing DGs but hopefully I wont get it cause my LFS breeds these little guys in her house and has been for several years. So I bought it from her and she hasnt had any problems with her DGs at all.

I am very happy they all look so cool.

That sounds lovely! You're lucky to get the gourami from a local breeder.

Do you have live plants? DGs really love plants and appreciate some floating as well.

Yes I have some real plants and a floating plant that Gimli (my DG) likes to chill under and observe his domain and servants (my 3 corys - Larry, Curly, and Moe).
