Stocking Ideas for a 150g?
A while back i decided to get back into the aquariums and picked up a 150gallon tank. I have a couple Convicts and some misc Cichlids. Well i decided that i wanted to get some larger fish for the big tank so i picked up a 46 gallon tank and transfered the small fish i had into it.
Now i need idea on what kind of Larger fish i can get for the 150g. I was thinking of an Oscar or two. But i would like something else that can go into the tank as well. My best friend has 2 oscars and they crack me up with their personalities but i dont just want 2 oscars and a pleco in the tank.
Any idea's or suggestions would be appreciated

First of all, nothing small enough to fit in the Oscars' mouth. Silver dollars, bala sharks, plecos, and Jack Dempseys are the ones listed by Fishlore as being acceptable tankmates. A couple of Oscars, two or three balas, and a pleco, and you might have a good setup.

Butterfly fish are a cool one that most people can't keep because they're such voracious carnivores, and most of us have smaller fish in our tanks. However, you're talking about big fish, so that would probably work well.

Well, when i figure out what to get, i will get them all about the same size so i dont have one eating the other.
Bala's are school fish right so i would have to have at least 3 of them? i thought i read that they are egg layers, i would have to find out what the male/females look like because i wouldnt want them breeding.
Ill have to recheck on the Dempsey's i didnt think they got very big.

Yep 3 if balas are what you want. I dont think that they breed easy in home aqaria and if they did the oscars would eat it in a secound so your good.
I've never had a dempsey so I dont know.

Well, im thinking along the lines of 1 Tiger Oscar, 1 Jack Dempsey, 1 Green Terror, and 1 Common Pleco.
From what i can tell thats about 54" of adult fish in a 150 gallon tank.
Would it be possible to throw in maybe a couple of other 4-6" cichlids, or would that be to much

I am partial to african cichlids, but that would make a heck of a malawi tank! If i had a 150 I would go crazy stocking that thing!!!! I wouldn't sleep for days thinking of ways to stock it.... congrats on the big tank...

Welcome to Fishlore.
That green terror will probably live up to his name. I like Oscars, but some Discus would be cool too. For a pleco, maybe a leopard sailfin pleco?

I dunno, im considering now a Lemon Oscar, a Jaguar, a JD and a Green Terror. But im not quite sure if the tank is large enough for all 4 of those.
The more fish i research and find pictures off, the more stocking ideas i get,and the farther away i get from actually stocking my tank lol

I know!!! Its easy to stock little tanks because your limited to fish that fit in your tank... but a 150 can house just about anything.
