I had this posted in Gouramis, but no action, so will try here:

Gouramis are a favourite of mine. I am setting up a new 36g bow/corner tank, and am so indecisive regarding stocking. It was to be a cichlid tank, but I also want more than a few fish and I do not want an agressive tank.

One of my stocking plans is to have kribs, and 2 or3 of either moonlight or pearl gouramis.

I fell in love with moonlights the first time I saw them.

Not sure I have seen live pearls, but have read so many articles on them and they sound wonderful.

Anyone with experience with either, I would appreciate the pros and cons!

Second stocking plan is to have yellow labs, but don't know what, if anything I could have with them.

Normally I would just go for it..but I am just sooooooooooo stunned and confused and frustrated. The more I read and research, the ditzy-er I get??

I've had a pearl gourami, and let me tell you, he was gorgeous! I would think they get along with kribs but the kribs will be the tank rulers. I'm only saying this thru separate experience as i've never had them together. I know that the gold gourami types and the pearls are likely to fight, probably over territory or something because when i got my pearl i already had a gold in the tank and he was after the pearl like anything. It struck me that pearls are not as hardy as the gold types, hence my saying that the kribs would be the rulers, more probably of the bottom. Hope this helps!

Thanks Sabi. I know Thor certainly rules the bottom level of his tank ( along with my clown pleco). He may put the run on one of the mollies or dwarf gouramis, but he doesn't nip or anything.
Elmer's Aquarium website says they would be compatible, as would angel fish ( 1-2)......still so confused. I will have lots of caves/hiding places and am hoping by stocking sparsely, and at top and bottom levels, I will be okay.

I would like to add them all at once as I did for the 55g, then they are all confused together..lol. I think I will have to order them online...not too many resources around here, so I want to be sure.

And how the heck do I ensure a "pair" of kribsEvery place says to buy 3f to 1m..........picking kittens is so much easier....

Having a mixed cichlid tank won't work either, since most of them get too big, and this is my last aquarium.....for certain no more room without giving over living space, and I truly don't want to do that.
