Help me stock
I have been trying to find the right fish for my 29G tall tank for months. I have tried guppies, montezuma swordtails, julidochromis ornatus and now I am on one silver angel. None of these have worked out and I just wanted some suggestions.
I am open to any ideas at all. Carol's thread reminded me of multis but my 29 is a tall so...
Just any ideas at all would be great!
I dont want:
Mollies
Swords
Goldfish
Neons
Cardinals
Tiger Barbs

I was going to say try a SW tank, but you said you had an angel in there. But why not go and try some Blue columbian tetras, or a whole South America themed community tank. Go with lots of tetras, the angel, some corys, a good S.A. algae eater, or something along those lines.

The angel is gone ASAP. Either to someone who is buying it online or at the ACA convention in July.
SW to expensive for me. Can't afford much more than some FW fish atm hehe.

Why sell the angel? It would make a great addition to the S.A. themed tank. I have one like that and I just love it.
That's what I thought too, but then I got into it and found out it isn't really that expensive.

Well. I wouldn't mind it. But my mom doesn't want me to go into SW yet. She kinda halfway controls what I get hehe.
I mean I like the angel. But I think an angel is to small for a 30 gallon. I feel like I am cramping my breeding pair of Marble angels in the 55. Its my personal opinion haha. I'm kinda weird. I just couldn't let the guy go since he was only 2 bucks.

How old are you? Can't you stand up to your mom? lol Just kidding, don't go and be disrespectful to your parents, EVER. But you should start saving up for a large SW tank when you are allowed to get one, they are just amazing, and very rewarding. Also do your research, on fish, coral, inverts, plants, LR, LS, lighting, skimmers, filters, sumps, all the good stuff. You don't want to go and skimp on anything like that for a really good and rewarding SW tank.
I think a 20 gallon is too small for an angel, but it is up to you. Go with a tank full of tetras, corys, otos/whiptail catfish/twig catfish, and lots of plants and driftwood. That would look so stunning, it isn't even funny.

14 haha.....
I reasearched for a 10 gallon nano that I was convinced that I could convince my mom into letting me get but that didn't work. So I am decently knowledgable about SW. Not an expert but I know the basics.
Wow I meant to say I think an angel is to BIG for a 30 gallon hehe. I look at some tetras and cats. Any suggestions?
Ive always wanted a red whiptail...hmmm lol

I was only kidding about the age thing, but alright. I'll edit it if you want.
You just need to get the tank, and slowly get the stuff for it and then slowly build on it, and have fun with it. This way you don't spend too much at one given time. That's what I do and my parents love it. Just get a few nice colored corals, and a nemo or two and have lots of fun with it.
That's what I meant too. An angel is too big for a 20 gallon, or a 20 gallon is too small for an angel. It's the same thing.
For tetras, I would say, Blue columbian tetras, emperor tetras, cardinal tetras, black neon tetras, pristella teras, flame/von rio tetras. Those are some tetras that would all look really nice together. For the cories, it's really up to your own personnal opinion on cories.
I've never heard of a red whiptail.

I will look at the tetras. I don't really like cories. I've had my fill of cories in a 10G (3 peppered)
I've never kept just small fish. Except guppies but I don't count that. So I might try just abunch of tetras or barbs or something like that.

What do you think about a moderate current stream of Central America with Convict cichlids in it?

Cool, I want some now.
You've never kept small fish? You're missing a lot. It's so much fun to see all these little schooling fish move from one side of a tank to another, with the odd one falling behind. Those aren't cories, I like the really fancy and expensive cories, like the wild julii cories, wild orange lasers, wild bronze, just pretty much wild cories are all great fish. You could have a sand bottom, lots of plants, driftwood, etc. It would look great if you got it done.

Well I have Cherry Barbs in my 55 but thats it.....only 9 of them also.
The julii's are really pretty. I saw them somewhere one time. Orange lasers are also pretty. I don't really like the bronzes though.
I think I will go with the convict idea and try to get them breeding. Let them be the only thing in the tank. Redo it completely. Put the L333 pleco with the guppies since I was looking for a pleco to go in there anyway.
I think I have a plan!
