I must've caught MTS or something, but I just acquired another 30 gallon tank from CraigsList. I already have a 30 gallon tank that I need ideas for, a 20 gallon all guppy tank, a 10 gallon fry grow-out tank, 10 gallon hospital/quarantine tank, and a 5 gallon Betta and RCS. Any ideas for either of the 30 gallon tanks?
For the second 30 gallon, suggestions on everything from substrate, plants, livestock, and decor would be greatly appreciated! Make pretend its one of your tanks. I'm not the most creative person in the world so all ideas would be awesome!

Lol, I know exactly what you mean about the list changing. I figure the easiest way is to have someone else come up with something for me, and then going from there and modifying it to my specific tastes (I just don't know what my tastes are yet!)

A 30g is a nice size to mess with. A pair of angelfish, a bristlenose pleco, 5 lemon tetra or 5 diamond or 3 platys/mollies with bright colors.

Ameca Splendens maybe? Or a tank of Julidochromis Marlieri if you want more cichlids.

I'm not sure about what type of fish, that depends on you. But these guys have some very good natural decor kavatica.com check them out if you are not very creative. remember some fish are cave dwellers...

I really like Allie's idea for the angels. I was going to suggest something similar. You could also do any of the following:

6 Tiger Barbs
1 Gourami
1 Yoyo Loach

2 Keyhole Cichlids
1 pair of Apistogrammas (varieties I would reccomend are cockatoo, panda, or borelli)
4 panda cories
5 Tetras (cardinal, gold, black skirt, von rio, or lemon)

Gravel
I would use black gravel (brings out just about any color in the tank); We have black with purple and it brings out just about every color in the tank.

Backing
Also black or dark blue back drop (same reason as above except we don't have one)

Plants
Plants would depend on type of fish as far as real or fake go.

Other decor
Drift wood is a nice looking addition to almost any tank. Just be sure to make sure if its already treated or if you have to do it.

These are just some starter things I would do.

Sounds great, I've been going to my LFS and writing down some fish that I really like and coming back here and researching compatibility and water parameter preferences. I appreciate all the ideas and I'm definitely going with the black gravel substrate and either a dark blue or black backing.

Here is our 20Gal if you were curious.

Obviously there is a little more pink then black.

If you haven't already, look through the "Member Tanks". There are plenty with black substrate and backgrounds (as well as others) to give you idea's. You can always "borrow" ideas from other people and put them together in your own. Good Luck!
