Striped Fish Tank
Hi everyone, I just joined today, yay. So I have a 55g long tank that I have just started cycling and I have been trying to think of how to stock it. Today I had this idea to stock it with fishes that are striped or appear striped, color does not really matter.
So I am thinking of starting out with 6 Kuhli Loaches and a clown pleco. I thought about maybe adding a pair of marbled angels. Maybe some Tiger Barbs, but I hear they can be sometimes aggressive and may fin nip the angels. I would pick up some striped corys, but I think my bottom would get crowded. I don't really have anything to fill up the top, I could do marble hatchets but I am not a huge fan of hatchets.
Please if you have any suggestions about fish or anything it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Zebra danios stay near the top and are very active. They get big enough for the angel not to be able to eat them. Clown plecos are so cute. My female is very nervous.

Well thanks for the welcome and the comments. I'll leave the barbs out. Maybe get some danios. I like gourami's, dwarf gourami's might be nice. I like opaline, but my past experience with opalines showed that they were rather aggressive to their tank mates. Maybe I'll just through out the whole striped fish idea, though I still want the kuhlis and the clown.

Oh you're right the chocolate gouramis are very pretty, I will definately think about adding chocolates. Actually I got a couple of snakeskins in my 70g, but I also have a million other guppies in there as well so I am trying to stay away from guppies.

welcome!
i have a 1 inch long clown pleco who is VERY shy, only comes out every couple days
although they are cute fish, its not for a fishkeeper who needs to see their fish every day
good luck and enjoy!

Yeah Kuhlis are quite shy too, but I don't mind shy, I'll still have some fish to watch.
I just found a Pentazona (five-banded) barb, look just like tigers but aren't supposed to be fin nippers, might have a hard time finding some though. Then there are skunk and panda corys, not really striped but they have some stripe to them.

You should have quite an interesting tank when you're done, I can't wait to see what your final stock is.

I have decided to go with 6 Kuhlis, 1 clown, 2 marbled angelfish, a few five banded barbs (assuming I can find some), and some black skirt tetras. I was going to do marbled hatchetfish but I was a little worried I might find my floor cover with jumpers.
I have not decided how many of each I will get since I figure I may change fishes by the time my tank is cycled. I counted it up and if I had 6 barbs and tetras I would have like 58 inches of fish, but I thought that would be alright since I have two power filters and I plan on weekly water changes after the tank is established. If I had problems I could always move some to my 70g.

Yeah well now I have decided to not get the barbs or black skirts as I have been quite told that I may have problems with them fin nipping. Anyway, maybe I won't get schooling fish at all. And I think I must give up on my plan of a striped fish tank, as I am having trouble finding striped fish. Oh well.
