Fish Stocking Suggestions

I have a 10 Gallon tank with 2 neon tetras in it. I will be getting 2 more neons and in a couple of weeks I want to get 2 more smallish fish. What would you suggest? I don't want to take fish store guy's advice on this. They need be community non schooling fish.

sorry to say but there is not much more you could put in there. but if you do decide to,don't get live bearers as you will end up with alot more fish. even if you just buy a female they can come pregnant as they can hold enough spern inside for up to three birthings.

Hi cousinav

4 neons=6" of fish, that only leaves you 4" to play with. Consider rounding out your neons, you could get 2 or 3 more, they're pretty, fun to watch and do better in numbers.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

i'd say some more neons. those like to be in groups, and 4 is kinda on the small side of a group. seeing them swim together in larger numbers is also interesting

i would do more neons like lucy and griffin. they should be in a school of 6 or more and they are very pretty. you can't really put much else in your 10gal tank.

good luck!!!

The neons would be happiest if it was just a school of 6-7 of them.

And if you don't want to get more "neon" neons, you could get black neons, which should get along well and school along with the others, correct if i'm wrong fishlorians.

i think they're supposed to school with the regular neons, but i 'm not sure if they always do. i got black neons thinking that they would school with the regular ones, but they tend to form two groups. it's not bad, but if you want them to school together, they might not. just fyi

Forget the neons. leave them at the store and get yourself a small red tail shark. If you have just the two neons and the shark you can keep them just fine. add a small rock decor for the shark to claim as his own. These guys can help you there. www.kavatica.com

crabbyabby-i was reading about the red tail sharks and they said that they are very territorial and to try not to put them in with small fish because they might eat them. are you sure it would be ok to put a red tail shark with the neons? i would really like to know because i would like one for my tank once the cycle is completed.

I was reading the profile on the red tailed sharks, they can grow to be 5"-6" and not recommended for a community tank.
I wouldn't chance one with my neons, especially in a small tank like a 10g.
They are cool looking fish.
