Could a German Blue Ram...
Go in a 10 gallon by itself? I'm looking for a nice looking fish, but I don't want fry, so I was thinking a single male of some kind would be nice. They only get to 4 inches or so? I think this would work would it not? Thanks,
Cory

Hi Cory
when you say by itself.. do you mean have it be the only fish in the tank? If not, and you are asking if a male would be ok with other fish by itself, then I would say yes. I had a male GBR for about 8-9 months in a community tank, for lack of being able to find a female for it. He did fine.. They do not usually get over 3 inches or so. They are smaller than the Bolivian Rams.

a GBR would be fine alone in a 10g but personally i would suggest a Betta!

Ok, what other fish would you suggest to go in with him if I get one? Some Cory cats maybe?

If you chose the GBR I would add a small group of neon tetras.
If you went with the Betta, i think you would be able to add a group of three cories? At least two IMO without over stocking. But personally, the Betta would be fine by himself. I have two males in their own 10g with no tankmates and they are just fine. You can decorate the tank nicely so it fills up with plants, rocks decorations? A male Betta would be very happy in there!

Well I already have a Betta with 2 Cory's in my other 10 gallon, so I was hoping for something a little different this time, something you don't see everyday.

killiefish? Shell dwellers? Any of the apistogramma's? or a whole troup of cardinal tetras... which would be really beautiful in a live planted tank. How they all swim together in waves would be really beautiful.
Or a school of Rasbora's would be nice as well.
There is a lot of small fish that can go in your 10g tank.

Shellie's are rarer than Do-Do birds here. I've read that Killiefish are easy to breed, which I don't want. I could look at some apistogramma's more than I have. Sorry if it sounds like I'm stubborn, I'm just trying to find something that I'll really like.

Here is the thing with GBR's. They are VERY sensitive to Am and all the rest of that stuff.
I have one in a 10 gallon with some cories. He did great, until I forgot to plug the filter back in after I did a water change. It was off for 6 Hr. That small Am spike killed him. There was only .25 Am in the tank,AND I had put Prime in it.
I just thought that I would tell you that about that. I am not trying to scare you out of them I am just giving you a Idea of how sensitive they are.

Or what about a single Krib with some Neon's or something similar?

I THINK that there is someone around here that keeps a male female pair of Kribs in a 10,but I am not sure about that.

Killifish breed easy, but they need primed to do so, I think that killis in a 10 would be great! the really only worrysome thing is they jump, so you need a tight lid.
