You are completely over stocked if this your 20 gallon aquarium. I would not add any more fish and would think about removing some.

Even a 55 will be overstocked with that list.

With cockatoos, you need around 3 - 4 females for each male so that will be enough bottom dwelling cichlids for one tank.

I would skip either the rams or cockatoos and get more neons instead.

I haven't kept guppies for many years, but I dont' think they would fare too well in this tank with cichlids and fin-nippers like danios.

i cant find any cockatoos so those are off the list but if i put all of the fish in that list i would have 41 inches of fish i would still have room for more not much but still more. without the cockatoos its less. ill try one or 2 guppys in the 20 gallon to see if they will nip but they havent nipped at any of my fish not even the cory cat and he was nipped upon by my tiger barbs awhile back(he is better now yay!). would it be a good idea to leave some space and not completely fill up the tank or what. thanks for the help so far.

ok since nobodyreally helped me here i went to a good petstore with good people and they said that there was no way i could keep rams and cockatoos together so now i want kuhli loaches. i heard that they like to be in schools is this true and will they be fine in with the other fish the guy at the store had no idea. and does anybody know about freshwater clams, malaysian trumpet snails, or kilifish in a tank like this

Loaches, just about all varieties, are schooling fish and great for community tanks, provided they have buddies or they get depressed; nothing's ever stated anything about aggression even with a loner. For loaches the minimum seems to be at least 4 to a school. You can look at www.loaches.com for more species specific info. I really want clown loaches, so they're the only species I've done any extensive research on. Loaches are snail-eaters, though!

As far as danios being nippers, I want some of these, too, and I never read anything stating they would be agressive at all. It might be possible if you don't have enough of them, they apparently are a minimum of 6 to a school. They also need lots of room to swim, as do most types of loaches, so a long tank is preferable, with lots of good water flow. I have a feeling whoever initiated the rumor that danios are nippers either bought an agressive breed without researching it or has some really depressed, lonely fish or the other fished being nipped on are just smaller and the danios are just thinking they are food. All I hear, though, is that they are good for community tanks and are very active. Loaches seem to be skidish and need their hiding places, but are voracious eaters and even when they're full, they beg for more food.
