Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Can I get any other fish? and recommendations?

So far in my 30G tank I have the following:

3 White clouds
3 Zebra Danios
3 Otocinclus
1 Upside-down catfish.
2 Dwarf frogs

Is there anything else that I can get in my tank, and if so, what do you recommend?

Thanks everyone!

First thing to do is up the number of clouds and zebras to 6 each, they are both schooling fish so not only will they be happier but you're not putting any of your fish at risk (schoolers tend to be fin nippers if not kept in a decent size group). The same guide line goes for Otos but you can get away with less - I don't think I've heard of any aggression problems with otos but its more of a stress thing for them I believe. Those three put you at about 29" right there I'm afraid.

Thats about all I can say, I don't know a thing about upside-down catfish or frogs but I do highly suggest picking up three more clouds and zebras. Zebras are very active and wonderful little guys - I believe the clouds are as well so you wont be missing out on anything by not having the room.

If they are schooling together, does that still mean I need to get 3 more of each?

Now that I'm not sure of, hopefully someone with more knowledge can answer that one for you. I believe with species that have differant color variations, you can usually have a couple of each and it doesn't matter but that isn't the case with the clouds and zebras (pretty sure they do originate from the same area?).

Hi!

You can get away with 3, but since you have the space, you should really up the schools.

When I brought home zebra danios, I ended up with a lone long fin zebra danio mixed in the group. Funny that I thought they would all school together, but no. The long fin was not part of the 'group'. Funny how that happened. As if they knew he was just a bit different than the others somehow. Wouldnt think that the long fin would matter, but it did lol...
fish are strange eh?
