Hypothetical Stocking Question - Final List in first post

Hey, say if in the future I made a 75ish gallon tank, could I put 3 German Blue Rams (2M 1F), 3 Angelfish and 6 Harlequin Rasbora's? I know the GBR's need a well established tank, so if this did come together, I would add them last (after the cycle). Thoughts? Thanks,

Cory

Length's
GBR - 9"
Angel - 18"
Harlequin - 12"
BN Pleco - 6"

Total - 45"

I was planning on building it a bit taller than your average tank to accommodate for the angels. Thoughts?

EDITED: Changed Tiger Barbs to Angel's

You could fit a lot more than that in a 75 gallon tank. That tank size can hold up to 75 inches of adult fish. You could put a couple more schools in there or some larger fish such as rainbows.

Fill it with piranha's...

That would be cool....

you could do 2 GBR's with 15 cherry barbs and 15 rasboras, that would like pretty bomb

15x2=30
15x2=30
2x2.5==5

that leaves you with 10 inches to mess around with.

enjoy!

make it ten cherrys and ten rasboras and get a school of cories too!

rams should, (from what i've read) be kept in a ratio of 2females and 1 male, so i'd suggest a minimum of 3.

Ok, well I just thought the tank sizes went from 55 to 75, so I thought I'd go big But I just found out my dad has a MASSIVE sheet of glass in the basement he said I could have to make a fish tank out of Also, my girlfriend REALLY likes angel fish, but I heard that they really like taller tanks, would they be able to be compatible too? Thanks,

Cory

angels and rams could go together, from what i've read... though i don't know that i'd have them with cherry barbs... their fins are tempting to potential nippers.

Well, I only picked Cherry Barbs because I thought they looked neat, but my girlfriend LOVES angels, so if I took out the Barbs, would it be okay?

Yeah it would be fine. That sounds like a great tank! If you took out the cherry barbs, you could replace them with a larger tetra such as black or white skirt tetras or hatchetfish. I would go with a school of corries as well. I love those little guys! Here's what I would do:
3 Angelfish= 18 inches
3 GBR= 9 inches
Harlequin Rasboras= 12 inches
6 Hatchetfish= 12 inches
6 Cories= 15 inches
5 Skirt Tetras= 10 inches
Have fun with your tank!

Well as soon as I can get ahold of the glass cutter, construction will begin

Thinking 48" L x 18" W x 20" H

Thoughts? Should be about 75 Gallons. Is 20" high enough for some Angel's? Thanks,

Cory

Hi!

That would be 96 gals! What kind of hachets where you thinking? I wouldn't get marbled - the max size is not established, and they are prone to whitespot and they can jump to 2M in the air when stressed - making water changes hard. Common hatchets are a delight, and it would take 8 of them to fill up 12in of space. They are also as safe as any other fish from whitespot and can't jump like Marbleds do (Although they can still leap!) Overall, if you ask me common (Silver) hatchets are the greatest in the world. Commons are also especcially pretty when it's 'lights out!' and flash like glitter in the dark in a dimmly lit room. Well worth watching - entertainment when the tank lights are off! Now, you won't get that from the Marbled hatchet in my sig....

Sorry for the mistake. I was thinking that hatchets got to 2 inches. I should have looked it up first. Oops!

20 inches high is pleanty high for angels. Sounds like a great tank! Good luck witht the building.

make sure the glass is thick enough for the weight of the water before you start building the tank will weigh approximatly 960 pounds more with rocks and other stuff

Well, the glass is 3/4" thick, which is thicker then what I've read is the minimum (1/4" for a 55), so I think I should be fine. Also, looking at my stocking options, I have a pretty good amount in the middle/top, but nothing for the bottom. Any suggestions? Thanks,

Cory

I'm thinking maybe 2 or 3 Kuhli Loaches?

Hi!

With kuhlis, think big numbers. They can be pretty much nocturnal in small numbers, I'd say get about 8 so you can really appreciate them! They only take up as much space as a cory. (About 2.5") 8x2.5=21". No problemo in a tank that big! You have to be careful with choice of tankmates, their wild actions will freak out gouramis and possibly cichlids, ans some fish will mistake them for live worms. *Yum!*

All the sites I've read said they get 3-4.5", but I may look into getting some.

Actually, after more research, what do you think about a BN Pleco?

I have a long finned bn pleco and I absolutely love him. They are great fish and will keep your tank really clean

Ok, well when I get the tank built, set up, cycled, all that jazz, I'll start looking for one. Will they eat shrimp pellets and the occasional vegtables I put in? Thanks,

Cory

I am a rabid fan of the cory cat fish as a whole and the small breed plecos. When I get the 75g moved from its current location, I plan on setting up a cory and pleco haven. Plecos are just funny guys to have around, BN, clowns, etc (i'll post some other smaller plecos but pricey shortly) and well corys.. corys are absolutely great - very very mischievous fellows.

LFBN Plecos eat algae wafers and anything else left over in the tank. They will also eat the algae off of your glass which is very helpful

Hi!

BN plecos will eat cuccumber, wafers etc. like crazy! So, so far it's 1 BN and 8 kuhlis. This will be a neat tank...
