Fish Stocking Chart

This is much more helpful than the 1" per gallon of adult fish.

It was taken from an Aquarium Fish Monthly Magazine.

Fish Length Minimum Gallons Per Fish this Size

1 inch 1 gallon
2 inches 2 gallons
3 inches 3 gallons
4 inches 5 gallons
5 inches 8 gallons
6 inches 10+ gallons
7 inches 12+ gallons
8 inches 15+ gallons
9 inches 18+ gallons
10 inches 20+ gallons
11 inches 30+ gallons
12 inches 40+ gallons
24 inches 75+ gallons

Hope this chart helps more than the general rule of thumb: 1" of adult fish per gallon.

REMEMBER THIS IS STILL JUST A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB BUT MORE SPECIFIC THAN THE ONE WE ALL KNOW. PLEASE RESEARCH ALL FISH THAT YOU WILL PURCHASE THOROUGHLY BEFORE BUYING.

Cory

They get about 6-7 inches but they need about 20 gallons MINIMUM for one. If you want multiple then you will need a well planted 50-60 gallon. Also if you didn't know they are brackish and require salt added to their environment. Just make sure to do your research on any fish before you buy them.

A good thing to do when you are trying to find information about a specific fish is to go to www.google.com and search "[fish] care sheet". For example I looked up spotted puffer care sheet and found this site: http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fres...ttedPuffer.php

You can look at the numerous care sheets and conclude information from all of the sites and then double check that information here.

Hope that helps,
Cory

Thanks, Eeek. I'm going to have to get a larger tank then. I have a 10 gallon tank for it set out. I'm going to have to get a larger tank.

Puffers have their own stocking rule, with their piles and piles of puffer poop.

I couldn't believe it. Today at the LFS the employee working tried to get me to buy a spotted puffer for my 40 gallon african cichlid tank. He said he would keep the fish in check. What an idiot. He also showed me some 3 lined cories and told me they were peppered cories. He also showed me a bumblebee cichlid and told me it was a yellow zebra. DEFINETLY research before buying since there are so many whackos working at the fish stores
