Aquarium Stocking Questions Use this board for aquarium stocking questions. Do NOT follow the 1 inch per 1 gallon of aquarium water recommendation that you will often hear at the local fish store. Stock your freshwater aquarium lightly and sensibly and if you need help with stocking your tank post your questions on this aquarium stocking board.

Am I overstocked?

Hello,

I have a 55g fish tank that I do weekly 20% water changes on. I am just wondering what you guys think of how I have it stocked. Here's the fish I have:

8 Harlequin Rasbora's
6 Tiger Barbs
6 Bloodfin Tetra's
2 Platy's
1 Red Tailed Shark
1 Bristtlenose Plecostomus

Opinions?

You will probably get a lot of aggression out of the Tiger Barbs towards your other fish.

It's a little heavy, but not grotesquely so, particularly if you are diligent about weekly maintenance. How are they getting along? Any signs of aggression?

I was a little concerned about aggression myself. But actually, they are all getting along great. Once in a great while, the redtailed shark will start chasing the tiger barbs around like crazy, but other than that they seem to get along fine.

I should also mention that I have a Rena XP3 canister filter as well, so I think the filtration is fairly sufficient.

Hi BJWillie, WELCOME TO FISHLORE!

Sounds like an active group. Your platies may be a little overpowered, but it looks like the numbers are good. I wouldn't add any more though. Enjoy the forum, and post often, we love pictures!

Almost every time I feed my tiger barbs and red tail shark, the shark will start to chase the barbs. It is fun to watch.
