| | Fish Helper | overstocking ok, so i am looking on craigslist for a new, bigger tank, and i found a 55 gal that is a good deal but in the picture it was way overstocked. and i mean waaaayy overstocked. so i emailed the people and asked them about it thinking maybe they got like, this massive tank for all of their fish and that is why they are getting rid of the 55... of course not the case.
the lady emails me back that this tank comes with all of the fish shown. she says "they are fresh water tropical. not sure of the names i know there are 4 neon but there is a lot maybe 200 in all"
200?! 200 fish in a 55 gal tank?! to me that's a deal breaker cause what am i gonna do with them all? i don't have anyone to give what, at the very least 160 fish to and i just cannot kill them! what i was thinking though, is can you imagine the comments i would get if i posted that i got a new tank that was just that overstocked?! what are people thinking?! | | Fish Keeper | Either you could try to give the fish to a local pet store, or ask them if you could pay the same price for the tank and only a select number. How much is it running for. |

| | Fish Helper | honestly, i don't want any of them, and the stores said they wouldn't take them so... she wants $200 but will go down. prolly thinks she is giving it away for the amount of money they have paid for the fish. |

| | Fish Keeper | DANG! Thats cheap! Yousaid that they won't keep the fish or the pet store won't take the fish? |

| | Fish Keeper | I'm in the same situation with a used tank I'm considering: they have 60+ cichlids in a 100 gal tank, both american and african. Nothing like what you found though...that's just awful. Good luck finding a way to deal with them all... |

| | Fish Helper | nope, they don't have another aquarium to keep the fish in... and i explained the situation to the pet store honestly and they said the doubted the fish would be healthy, and to be honest, so do i! |

| | Fish Keeper | Not only is that tank way too overcrowded, but they've placed it right by a window, which probably has the water temperature all over the place.. between that and the overcrowding, I'd say those fish are high risk for sure. |

| | Fish Helper | that's not even by a window, those are outside on a lanai or porch. i just don't wanna pass it up! |

| | Fish Helper | ok so this guy who owns the tank says he started with about 8-10 fish and they have been breeding and that most in this tank are babies. crazy! |

| | Master Of Fish Poo! | ay chihuahua! That's absolutely amazing. that's at least 700% overstocked even if the fish are all gups, neons and platys (I can make out those for sure in there).
Wish we were still in St. Auggie - then maybe we could help take some of the fish and stock them temporarily in some empty tanks.
Do you maybe have any fish clubs nearby? Fish clubs usually have auctions and you could sell the fish off that way. Make a few bucks and get them into other tanks. Quote:
