My brother stock list, Help

This is my brothers 30G Tank Stocklist

1 Convict, male or female, more than likely it will be a female Convict.
6-8 Tiger Barbs
1 Red Tailed Shark (we just got home with one)
1 Clown pleco (have one)
Running a Aquaclears 50 and 100W Visi-therm Stealth.

Now,over here They are RIPPING my brother apart because of the list above.
What do you guys think?
He has posted this list on cichlid-forum.com and ever one AND the Mods have given him the OK with the list above.

Thanks
You guys here are very nice and helpful!

Sounds like a colorful, interesting tank. They MAY get along....if you have at least 6 of the tiger barbs....but I also worry that they will just end up as a tasty morsel for the convict.

The biggest problem I see, is that in a 30 gallon tank you would be grossly over stocked. If you only had 6 TB,,, it would be at least 34" of fish. That is counting the low estimates on the fish. This doesn't sound so bad, but with several large waste producers, it would not be easy to keep up with the tank maintenance.....

The other thing I see is that you are suggesting a Clown Pleco. You would NEVER see this fish in an aggressive tank, and it wouldn't be a good addition. It would get picked on all the time.
You could lighten the bio-load by not using this fish in this aquarium.

Hi!

Leave out the convict. In a 30gal tank with tigers and convicts, you need it to be under-stocked really. Also, Clown pleco will be ripped to shreds by tigers. I notice he asked over there about other fish. 6 Cherry barbs, 1 Clown pleco and 1 RTBS will do you. Please leave out cichlids.

EDIT: May I point out I saw someone on that forum with a Betta bowl, and plenty of people with grossly overstocked tanks!

He is not going to put in TB,now that there is a pleco in there.

He is going to put SOME kind of cichlids in there but I am not sure what kind. I know he is looking for something a LOT less mean and small 4-6". He does know what he is doing.

If they are thinking of going cichlids. The Yellow Lab is actually a pretty mellow fish. I have one in my cichlid tank with 4 Red Fins and he rarely ever chases any of the other fish as them chasing him, but the Red Fins will chase each other. I have pic's in my photos if you want to take a look at him, or I can post em if you want. I can't say for mixing them though.

Female salvini, blue eyed cichlid, keyhole, or maybe rainbow cichlid. He is ONLY going to put in a American cichlid, NO Africans. Those are some of his choices for cichlid,he would ONLY pick one of them not all of them in one tank. We are better fish keepers than that.

What about a Pleco tank? He LOVE plecos.

Sorry, left my area. Only have the Cichlid tank and the terrarium in progress... No plecos. Wouldn't mind one in the cichlid tank to eat some of the algae though (not a problem, just easier).

Hi!

What about Bolivian rams, or Cockatoo cichlids? I like Keyholes cichlids, they are very peaceful. Sorry - I'm no cichlid expert (Antabantoids, Hatchets, Cyprinids, Livebearers and Catfish are my area.) but it's what I think might work.
