Wanted: fishy to meet the following description

5-8 inches in length
Great solo player
Gets along well with smaller schooling fish and angelfish
Will enjoy a densely planted tank with gravel and sand subrate with wood and slate terrace caves.

I was orginally thinking of saving for a 90g but looking as so many choices I've decided to just aim for a 180g (it'll only take a few years of saving at the least to beable to start buying the stuff.. only). Right now I've settled on a pair of angelfish and schools of cherry barbs, harlequin rasobras, silver tip tetras, zebra danios, rummynose tetras, dwarf loaches, otos, cories (peppered, panday & albino) and dwarf neon rainbows. I'm still looking at a pair of the German Blue Rams? I think it was but I'm looking for a single fish.

Call me crazy but I kind of picture the angels ruling as king and queen over all the little schooling peasants, really just missing that adorable little jester that everyone loves. Something to share the angel's spotlight if you will. What first came to mind was an eel but from what I understand I wont have a big enough tank, it will pose a threat to the other fish and I want to be the only escape artist in the house so my second thought was a shark - but again, I think it would pose too much of a threat to the other fish. Is there anything I might beable to look into?

Maybe a rainbow shark but im not sure how they would act with the tetras and harlequins. i'd probably go for the GBR pair.

There are dozens of beautiful plecos and ancistrus of all sizes and colours to choose from!

I'm sure you can find one to suit you!

I have to say, I really do like the Royal Farlowella? I haven't found too much in the way of infomation but I do like how they look very much. Already planning for otos and cories, as long as I make sure there is enough food for everyone - there shouldn't be any problems?

I keep finding contradicting infomation about the rainbow shark. If possible I might be getting two single players since I do techincally still have plenty of room.

They're all just too tempting!

A Pleco does sounds like it would fit the bill. You could check the Plecos list at planet catfish and see what plecos would grow to that size.

The only problem with a pleco is that it will destroy a lot of the plants in a planted tank.

A bristle nosed pleco (ancistrus) will not harm plants, will stay small and is not aggressive.

Mine cleaned all the algae out of my 20 gal tank in just a few days! I have many plants as well, and he never touches them. I feed him cukes and zucchini.

I think its safe to say with a pleco and otos I wont have to worry about algae? I'm looking at a few of them but I wasn't aware they might cause some problems for the plants. I've been looking at the Royal Sturiosoma, Whiptail Loricarid and now the Bristlenose.

Still looking into the rainbow shark but how about a Siamese Algae Eater?

What I mean is that they will uproot a lot of the plants if they aren't rooted properly.

How will they do with plants like java moss and java fern? I'm not sure how secure their roots get since I believe they're usually just anchored to rocks or wood?

If they get well anchored before the pleco goes in, they should be fine.

I have both in my tank with BN and they dont really mess with it. They suck on the anubias leaves and its very loosely planted and they dont pull it up. They also suck on the water sprite and its fine. They really dont uproot the plants in my opinion they hang out on wood and rocks and the glass more than try to mess up your plants.
